I've missed several pages of this thread If ever a contribution of the nature suggested earlier is required in the cause of e-cig perpetuation (for the want of better words) please count me in whether I'm here or not! Chrissie has my email address and will drag me in scylla

We've had a response to the petition. Unfortunately it was from the Department of Health and it was their standard propaganda. You can see it here, it's the last two pictures at the bottom of this page - vapersnetwork.org/node/31

No worries, I'm glad to be able to make myself useful.
It is a pity the DoH have claimed nicotine as a health issue, I'd have liked the Office of Fair Trading or the Business Bureau to be involved but none of them will touch it because of the DoH. Pigdogs.

Did anyone stop to think or even consider the possibility ...... that this kinda thing could actually have negative repercussions? Anyone at all?

Could I ask you fine ladies what you do for a living ?? I'm curious as you both don't seem to understand the Political or Corporate mindset at all ...... as they say, "know your enemy" babes !! Firstly, have any of these petitions EVER changed the major plans of Government ?? Secondly, were the number of signatures on the petition large enough for them to even bother giving it any serious attention ?? Thirdly, would it be better to let the Tobacco/Pharma industry have the vague/inflated perception that Vaping is supposedly HUGE in the UK ...... or would it better to let them have concrete knowledge that our numbers are so small as to be insignificant ?? Fourthly, public actions like this are an indicator of desperation and show that the Vaping community is pretty much helpless and without any intrinsic "muscle" (aka finance and legal support) ...... does this help or harm the cause ?? Fifthly, would this petition provoke the Anti-Vaping lobby to accelerate their timetable and further increase their efforts against Vaping ?? Answers on a postcard please .......

Maybe petitions are ignored by those who think they know what's best for us all but at least we don't sit back, do nothing and moan about results with which we disagree.
The petition, plus our written responses to the MHRA's consultation document certainly gave pause for thought as, together with the end of period meeting, we vapers have been given a stay of execution. Traders were given the chance to point out the many misconceptions the MHRA had regarding the e-cigarette and knew that they had the backing of many thousands of satisfied customers. Who knows, if we'd simply been apathetic there would have been no further discussion; just a total and instant ban.
Too many people these days allow themselves to be ridden over roughshod and don't seem to care enough to make their opinions heard.

To me, the point about petitions is not that the government will take notice (I signed one which had 2 million sigs and had no real impact) but that they act as consciousness raising that will lead people to take other, more effective, action
