centre post is defo plated.
Air hole did not line up on my 2 but swapping the caps round and they line up perfectly now, if your air hole does not line up you are going to get a hell of a throat hit!

I posted this in the delivery thread, but I think it would be better here....
OK.....
First impressions… As I said in my other post, the air holes are out, by as much as 180 deg, but as I have three I decided to swap the caps about to see if I could get better positioning… Yep, two are now spot on with the wick hole and the other is about 20 dg off. I can live with that for now. Finish good, quality of build good, threads good, tank is very thick (I like that). “O” rings are good, spares good.
I observed a little play in the centre post floating up and down (allows for different fitting tolerances). I used the extra centre post nut as well to connect the coil two between the top two nuts, allows for variation in height of the coil.
So, I rolled a wick from the 500 grade, oxidised it and fitted to the tank, good snug fit to the wick hole. Nice SS mesh! Rolls well, very fine, sucks up the juice well.
I decided to throw the little bit of wire that it came with and used some stock 0.20 ohm Kanthal, wrapped a 5/4 coil around ait and measured it in at 1.7 ohms. Good enough for me.
I used the screw nearest the wick hole as the ground for the coil, and had to bend the wick (more of a lean really) towards the centre post to reduce the gap.
Dry burn, all looked good, no hotspots…. Filled the tank up with some “Auntie Floe’s Pear Drops” as I wanted to also check out the Polycarb for cracks.
All looked good, no leaks, no cracks, so I fired her up………. She breaths…….. very well actually…….. put the cap on, fitted a nice chrome drip tip and…………………………………………
MMmmmmmmmmm, a little smog generator …
Yes, I am very happy.
Thanks Perps, Macca, etal.

If your coils are popping it means the wick may be conducting.. Start at low voltage on your provari and put some juice on the wick before you fire @ 3 volts for the first time... Thanks Macca. The Provari is not giving me a 'short' error, and it's ok tapping through the menus to read the resistance so I guess it's not a short? It's just that when I stop tapping and give a proper press, the bit of wire in the air between the coil and the post glows hot and pops

I think it will always tap through the menus. What ohm reading are you getting.

Do you have a mech mod oneday, I find the initial setup and clearing up of any hotspots easier without having to wait for E1 and E2 errors to clear, 3.7 volts isnt gonna get it that hot too quickly.

The issue is that when the coil glows hot it tends to short by burning away the thin layer of gunk behind it..It'll be fine when you do a resistance check but will glow white hot and pop when you fire it. When you tighten the nut the top coil and the wire tends to be pulled tight cutting through the layer.
Remove your wick and leaving the coil in place and reoxidise once or twice and and quench it pure VG. Then insert the wick back in. Roll it a little smaller if you have to to do this..The wick will open out with use..
Then drip a few drops and fire it a couple of times at 3 ohmvolts. If you are using nichrome it tends to pop more easily..So you have to do a little bit more to prevent nichrome from popping especially in the early stages of coil use.

Ah but don't forget that with a freshly charged battery a mechanical mod is chucking out near 4.2V, even worse for setting up that initial coil.
