My 18 month old grandson sees me vaping. He also sees people smoking probably everywhere he is wheeled in his pushchair. I am safe in the knowledge that the "smoke" will not harm him and everything is kept well out of reach. As he gets old enough to understand then he will be taught the same way as everything else, i.e fires, cookers, wall sockets and ECigs are dangerous and not to be touched. Well he already is in the process of being taught but you get my drift.

We can only teach the dangers and let the children learn which ever way that may be. Being a responsible for a child is hard and as parents we can only do our best and as you say we can not shelter them from the outside world

My wife looks after our two grand kids one 8 and one 9 when their parents are at work, the wife explained to them about vaping and told them under no circumstances were they to touch any thing related to vaping. When we fill our tanks, cartos whatever it be our juice always gets locked away and has done since day one. But no doubt if i was to go out the room and leave my mod or the wife leave her ego down the kids may well pick it up and maybe have a vape. Kids will be kids no matter what you try to install in them or how they are brought up, they see us doing it so they think its OK. My dad used to say you don't do as i do, you do as i say i right.

I wouldn't have dared touched anything belonging to my parents. Different world now.

When I was 8 my mum used to send me to the shop for cigs. We lived in a small village so they knew they were for my mum. Sorry, I don't have anything to add to the topic other than that really.

When I was about 10, I remember being sent to the shop for fags for my Dad, only once, the corner shop owner wasn't happy about giving them over, but knew my Dad, so he let me off that once. He did lecture me about how he shouldn't do this and how I wasn't to ask again. I wasn't amused with my Dad.
Because of my parents smoking, I was an avid anti smoker till I got to 20......... All my siblings smoke.
I must admit, I half expect to see my 3 year old with my ecig in his mouth at some point, he's a little devil. Don't get me wrong, it horrifies me and I'm going to do all I can to prevent it. My 9 year old hates smoking and I don't think will do it, hopefully the 3 year old won't, or can't do it till he's old enough to understand.
I agree with the person that said about if there is one thing that will cause vaping to really get on the map for bad reasons, it will be the child that gets into extreme difficulties after vaping someone's ecig. And god forbid ........dies from nicotine poisoning.

Serious conversation, but let's understand one thing - it's extremely unlikely that a child would die from using even an ecig loaded with 45mg juice, for the simple reason that they'd be vomitting terribly long before they got enough nic in them to kill them. The same is not true of juice, however - a single millilitre (less than a Vison Ego full) of 24mg, if drunk, could be enough to kill an infant or toddler if emergency help wasn't sought promptly.
On the subject of "monkey see monkey do" - I do think that folks get a bit uptight about nicotine, in a way that they don't about caffeine. It's becoming increasingly understood that nicotine, in and of itself, is not the major addictor in smoking (and by extension, vaping) - it is the combination of nicotine and MAOIs that comprises the addictive quality, together with the habitual hand-to-mouth action and the inhalation of the substrate and subsequent exhalation. Without the MAOIs, a number of studies have shown, there is little addiction to either smoking or vaping. This puts nicotine rather more closely in the caffeine camp than you might think.
And if that's the case, there's little need to worry about our kids becoming "addicted" to e-cigs, any more than you would worry about them becoming "addicted" to caffeine (coffee, coke, pepsi, red bull and so on, although some of those may be less desirable for reasons other than caffeine).
There's one sentiment that's been expressed in this thread that does, however, give pause for thought - and that is that the sweeter, fruitier, nuttier flavours are attractive to children. Now, those of us who have been actively fighting against the various attempted bans on e-cigs and the half-baked reasons the bansters give for their desires have argued that these flavours are no more likely to tempt children into the rocky road to smoking (using e-cigs as a gateway product, if you will) than anything else. I'm very wary of anything that gives fuel to that particular fire - I'm not a great fan of fruity and drinky-flavoured e-juice myself, but those that are would be upset to see their favourite flavours taken from the market because someone was "thinking of the children" or if it "saves just one child's life" (two phrases that make me shudder).

My e cig is always within my sight wherever I am, in my jeans pocket when I'm not puffing on it and on the bathroom window ledge when I take a shower, never leave it lying around. Not that it matters as far as kids are concerned as there's none living here at the moment.
When my daughter was young I taught her not to touch any of my stuff without asking first. When I was young, I'd have just had a clip round the ear if I'd have touched any of my parents belongings!

I must admit that in the 80s I smoked in my house smoked in front of my kids. But that was the norm back then and I do feel a great guilt over it. I changed to smoking outside only (never a joy in Scotland in winter) Now I only vape in the kitchen as I have to respect the wishes from my wife and kids (one day they will move out) My granddaughter is three today and she is one of the reasons I gave up smoking, and reading these posts have reminded me of the reasons why I don’t vape in front of her and I keep all my vaping stuff locked in grandpas shed.

My Mum also sent me to get her ciggies. I went to the local shop and asked for 20 Sovereign every day from about age 8, the shop knew us well, no one blinked an eye, seems this was common back then! (I think they were about 18p lol) My Mum smoked through both her pregnancies and no doubt all over us as babies. That sounds awful now, but in the 60s and 70s it unfortunately seemed to be the norm in 'seasoned' smokers - ie addicts! No one knew the real dangers! I remember my dad puffing away on his awful pipe with St Bruno or his Hamlet cigars on the go and my Mum with her 40 a day habit. I could hardly see the TV - it was like a welding shop in my living room - I hated it, I think I complained a bit but probably got told to belt up or go into another room! I always had a croupy cough and respiratory problems until I left home! I never ever had an interest in smoking. I went all through my teens, 20's and 30's and was in my 40's when I had my first cig! That was due to something happening in my life at that time. So the one thing I swore I'd never do and the dreaded habit that killed my Mum; took over my life! Every time I lighted up, I berated myself, for the life of me I couldn't understand why I smoked and I even dreamed about smoking. I didn't even particularly like cigarettes. I think it was social smoking and peer pressure that got me started. How ridiculous at my age! Anyway less about me; this was originally about kids around vapers! I could be very angry at my parents, but I forgive them as they knew no better. Nowadays we do know the truth! When my Dad packed up he became the most obsessive anti smoker ever, giving my Mum day after day of grief! Vaping is 99% less dangerous to us than the fags, and maybe we're addicted to the nicotine or maybe it's just the habit! I tend to think that it's all the gadgets, mixology and wealth of flavours out there that makes it an enjoyable hobby rather than an addiction! It wouldn't kill anyone; adult or child unless they drank it. A lot of us have copped a mouth full of juice now and then, and I personally have never had nicotine poisoning! Kids will be kids as someone said earlier, and remember the "Sweet Cigarettes" we all ate as kids. Hmmm what did that say to a whole generation of kids in the 60's 70's 80's??? My daughter now accepts my vaping, she used to give me hell as did my husband about the smoking. She said at 9, " it's just a piece of plastic with steam coming out of it, it looks silly, I don't see the point Mum" Now she accepts it and so does my husband and I don't get nagged day in day out! Everyone brings up kids differently but whether brought up with a "Rod of iron" or "couldn't give a f*ck" parents they are all capable of leaving one in sight and as you say kids will be kids! Oh unless they're put in handcuffs of course! And yes nearly everyone had lighters, matches and ciggie packets lying around everywhere in families, if anyone denies seeing them then they must've grown up in a bubble! Oh and if my 15 year old was sneaking fags, I would greatly encourage vaping! Anythings better than getting the BIG C - and lets face it folks, most of us have experienced that with someone and that's the NO 1 reason we all quit! No doubt I'll get criticised by the sticklers; but when you smoke you do a lot of irrational things without thinking, as the need for a cig knows no bounds and you take risks just to get your - in my case "sneaky opportunist fix" If you've never lost or mislaid an e cig stand up! have never searched high and low, turning house upside down??? How do you know your kids haven't hidden it? It's very easy for little eyes to suss out where you're hiding them, if you even hide them at all - because then you can't find them because you constantly forget where you've hidden them;) > Mine's usually in my hand or on my desk, but sometimes you have to run to the loo! I quite often take it with me, but come on, we are blinkin' human after all - no ones infallible! Nothing can be as bad as what I and a lot of children had to endure decades ago! Jules

My Mum never smoked as far as I can recall, but Dad did, and I used to nick a couple of Woodbines from his pack quite regularly. He must have noticed but never said anything. Christmas was great when he got the special packs of 50 as pressies, so I took a few more! I used to come home from school, having smoked on the way home, hid my packet in the hedge outside, and assumed no-one would know. But we all know now when we bump into a smoker.

I am going to be honest here - please don't shoot me.....
I DO keep all my liquids well away from my Grandson, always have, and only use Ego batteries which I lock if I put them down and try to keep out of his way....
I was visiting a couple of months back - he was just 2 - went to the loo, came back and he was watching CBeebies with my Ego in his mouth pretending to puff away....I am the only person he saw vape ever, every month or so when I visit.
That was a shock. Fortunately, it was locked but still...I had forgotten and left it on coffee table.
Kids will copy anything they see adults do. But I tell you. I was never careful about fags. Would keep lighters and ashtrays out of reach for obvious reasons and drum into the kids they must not touch them, but just wasn't as conscious of it.
I have known friends whose kids ate the butts from an ashtray - ugh.

And to add, the sweet taste DOES worry me - at least ciggies are an "acquired" taste!
