So, my shiny new v5 vamo arrived today - how excited was I, until I started screwing atties on? Igo-l Protank Now I might have this completely wrong, but I don't think there should be a 1-2mm gap between the vamo & the Atty. The 510 connection is about 2mm proud of the top of the cap. Now, I understand I could screw's the top cap out a bit, but that exposes a brass ring (which i believe has no business being part of a SS vamo?):
Moreover, I am not entirely convinced this thing is built from stainless -it feels much more like aluminium! So, am I justified in my sending this back? Or is there anything I can do to fix the gap?
Maybe this is one of the reasons vendors are sending them back & not stocking them?

Experience is what we get when we don't get what we want.

I have a Vamo V2 SS and the same happens on mine; a 2mm gap between top of Vamo and base of a Protank. Hell, for that money, I've just got on with it, and if I really want my tanks to fit snugly, I'll spend a bit more and get something with better tolerances. I'm sorry - on reflection this sounds a bit 'holier-than-thou', Fred, there is nothing worse than waiting for a whole pile of time for something only to find it's not quite what you were expecting. I think my Vamo cost about £25 (it was nearly a year ago), and arrived in 3 weeks, and at that time I wasn't aware of these things, so I just accepted it as the norm.

fredIf it is that is a bit extreme for a 510 sticking out that much, if it ain't maybe one of those airflow controller thingy might look a bit better as the top is adjustable a little.....i am clutching at straws now

robby - came from fasttech. There's no brass visible if the top cap is screwed down, as in the other 2 pics - it's when you unscrew the top cap a bit to close the gap that the brass becomes visible (should have put an atty back on to show). Thought it was supposed to be SS? chykensa - no probs - not holier than thou, and yep, if I could spend more, i probably would. Having now got a mech mod, I'm thinking that sending the vamo back wouldn't be too much of a problem. Super-Shiny - yes-sir-ee, that be the 510 connector Bit worried that there's no support from the top cap, having read that the 510 threads aren't the strongest to start with. The other thing I thought of, was to get a new slightly longer top-cap made somehow, but now wondering whether to return it, and try an SVD instead? Although, I don't really like the look of the SVD.... As for being SS, got a magnet to stick to the bottom cap, so that ain't ali (but not necessarily SS), but the tubes, no dice, so could be SS - they seem a lot sturdier than the bottom cap. Got a gold spring, which is magnetic, and OLED screen, which is nice. Oh the joys of Chinese buying....

Ss isn't normally magnetic. There are 2 base types, of Stainless Steel, one which contains Nickel, non magnetic. (expensive). And the other contains Chrome, magnetic. (cheaper) CHEERS

It could just be the case of the top cap being made too small in height as for me that or any 510 connector should not be sticking out that much, when i searched on google images didn't see any stick out that far Google piccys

Ss isn't normally magnetic. Martensitic stainless is But that's why I mentioned that the magnetic properties of the base and the tube were inconclusive: But, the stainless issue, is probably secondary, to the fact that the 510 sticks out too far, compared to the top cap - I think this one will be going back from whence it came. The burning question is, do I get a refund or a replacement? You pays yer money, you takes yer chance with China.

All I do on mine is unscrew the removable top part once the atty is attached, until it hides the gap.

Every V5 SS Vamo I've seen has the atty gap, one of the eccentricities of the beast. I'm so used to it I forget it is there. I've not seen the brass like that before though .............. Jag. (You learn something everyday ....)

The bottom cap will appear magnetic because of the steel spring inside it. If you have a battery inside then remember it is magnetic as well. As to the top cap, is it possible the end cap which carries the 510 connector has not been fully pressed home when it was assembled. Mind you I would be reluctant to just go ahead and press it down further if this was the problem as may be a wire trapped under it stopping it pressing down to its designed position. What I would do is take the bottom tube off, screw it onto the top piece instead of the collar and use it to wiggle out the end ...being very careful of course. Then inspect what is stopping the end piece pressing fully home and sort it...but that is me and I am not you. Also bearing in mind what Jaguar7777 has said it may be normal.
