hijack good points, but I still have the Red 18350s I got for a Lambo LavaTube V1 and now use them in mechs. So I would tend to recommend good high-drain IMR like VTCs as they are always good and in case the person moves on to a mech, SX3x0 or DNA30 as if you have a few batteries and rotate them they can last a couple of years or more. I only use high drain IMR/hybrid batteries, namely Sony VTC4 and 5 or Panasonic PF and as you say they are a good safe future proof recommendation. That's for the 18650 size, unfortunately there is no corresponding batteries in the smaller sizes and the choice then is not as straight forward. A bit of research, referring to the hijack guide and the great info ronaldo has given helps make an informed decision

Thanks ronaldo and @scooby you do me too much honour, but it's nice to have it confirmed I'm on the right track as I knew jack about Li batteries when I started and only bits and pieces now. Lucky I was lurking here before buying my first 18350s and got Red Efests and a Xtar charger from VE Jason (the charger is still going strong), I might have got something with Fire written on the wrapper if it were not for this place. I didn't have a good experience with sticking to cigalikes for far too long (the batteries lasted less time than it took to charge them), then the eGos I got were cheap sh1te and only lasted a few months so decided to learn from my mistakes.
