Advice needed for Ethyl Maltol crystals

Has anyone used ethyl maltol crystals?

I got some that came in a 10ml bottle and I had seen in a description for liquid that its was a 10% solution so poured about 3.5ml of the crystal into a 30ml bottle and added 30ml of PG and have mixed it until it dissolved.

I thought it was a sweetener so tasted the tiniest bit to see how sweet it was and got no sweet taste at all.

Does it mature and get sweeter or does it only taste sweet when vaped?

Thats exactly what I did, originally tried half/half bottle but it didn't dissolve so I rebottled the diluted part. I never thought to taste it..... ???

Yeh I saw that the ethyl malto liquid said it was a 10% solution so with that in mind I put 10% of 30ml with is 3ml in a 30ml bottle. It has dissolved after an hour of me warming it and shaking the solution.

I expected it to be sickeningly sweet but it tastes of nothing much at all.

Ethyl Maltol is more than just a sweetener. It is also a flavour enhancer.

It helps give a candy effect for fruit flavours and helps add a little body to tobacco and dessert juices.

I mix my crystals at around 15%, but I've seen people recommend anything from 5% to 50%. So I guess its all down to individual taste.

If its just plain sweetness you're after then I'd just get a Sucralose based sweetener like TPA's sweetener.

Although in my opinion the mix you have done will be fine for adding a little sweetness. Like many juice mixes it will develop with a little steeping.

Which is why I always use TPA's or Flavorwest's sweetener which is Sucralose based . . . Ethyl Malto as a sweetener doesn't do it for me either.

Glad you got it ok Ripshod. If it helps I weighed it out on a mg scale (don't ask) and it was 2.2g ish so a 10% mix should give you 20ml ish, if that helps.

Thank you very much indeed. Will "weigh" it out and have at it at lunch time.
Mixed up some Banana split , New york Cheese Cake and my own peanut butter graham cracker blend.
From what i read, EM should go nicely with all of those.
next I'm going to try and make the baccy concentrates I have taste nice.

Morning ruffdog glad it arrived ok.
There should be just over 2g as I weighed out yours and rips on a very accurate scale and there was 0.1g difference.
Not bad for splitting it up by eye.
A 10% mix(which is what the liquid sold is) would give you 20ml but you may want to do stronger. I tried a 20% mix and have crystal at the bottom of the bottle but ill add a bit of PG as I use some. I called mine 20% so will treat it as double strength EM.
Ill look out for the postie, he doesn't turn up here till after 12 so
