DIY job in a tiny box. About a minute in it reads too hot. Ive tried it out the box and still the same. Had nothing but trouble with this chip. Is this fixable or is it time to bite the bullet and replace it. Am just curious as to the what may be the cause. Would a dry joint or similar be a culprit. Thanks in advance.

If it comes up with that message it is faulty. IMHO I would not use it. If it catches fire you could lose a lot more than a PCB. Always safety first.
