rubber or silicone o ring for tanks ?

hii all about to place order for kraken from fasttech apparently the o rings can be dodgey they list rubber and silicone one in sizes needed which would be best to use ? cheers russ

silicone as its less volatile and is less likely to get attacked by a caustic juice..

Silicone takes the win in my mind. Any rubber o-rings would have to be 'food grade' or you risk nasties leeching into your juice - this bumps the price up - silicone is a lot less volatile.

thx ..lol just what i wanted to hear gotta the pks of 50's then was hoping to get smaller packs but the only come in rubber...not to wry the few extra dollars is worth it for the right thing at least i know what to order now ...gotta laugh the o rings cost as much as the kraken itself more or less ! thx for help

Unless it's exposed to high temps then FDA Nitrile would be fine. There is nothing in the Juice that will break down nitrile. Nitrile is significantly cheaper than Silicone as well. I only know this because I work for an O Ring supplier.
The standard O Rings in the kayfun 4 are nitrile anyway.

I have some nitrile O rings I bought two years ago, no sign of them evaporating.

Nitrile, like natural rubber, can be attacked by ozone, aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters and aldehydes.

Ketones are a constituent part in the smell and flavour of Rasberries and similar fruits.

For use with foodstuffs (apart from the nicotine that's exactly what juice is) which contain aromatic hydrocarbons and ketones, Viton is better suited and safer. If there is any leeching you'll probably never see it - it's chemical.

It's up to you what material you use, and I'm not trying to lay down any law. If I can't find silicone I'd rather use, and recommend, Viton o-rings. There are other materials available that are even better, but cost more and I don't see the sense in paying the premium.

Ignore. Seems the FDA have a different idea so that's what everyone is going to believe!! I'll still not use viton though
