Its pretty crazy how the focus has gone to protecting kids from vaping and talking about candy flavors etc these days and not on how to make ecigs more accessible to all smokers, it should really be like - we know vaping is at least 50% safer than regular cigs so let everyone switch then deal with whether its maybe 99% safer or more, even if everyone switched and its concluded its still got some risks although less, then at least thats a way better step to then get people to stop completely. Although theres really a good amount of evidence that its way more than 50% safer.
Theres always gojng to be the issue of things being appealing to kids though with many things, even for example prescribed tablets that are colourful could be a problem so its ultimately going to be about keeping these things out of reach. Also regular cigs are appealing enough as it is, better time spent by officials etc on doing more research on the effects of some flavorings maybe and comparisons in harm between vaping and regular cigs than wasting any time on these issues which seems the main focus these days at least in the US. Also whether it harms those around too really isn't a major issue when compared to regular cigs. At the worst case should be something like "were not sure how much it affects others yet so for now vape where you can smoke and when they're satisfied with the data that its completely harmless then reverse that and let people vape anywhere".
Its really similar with the drugs war too, its become so obvious what a comical mess they've made by keeping things illegal but theyre too scared that if theyre all legal then suddenly everyones going to go out and get high lol. If ecigs were kept in the open system as they are now and testing was done to make sure everyone gets good quality stuff and everyone switched, the benefits would outweigh the disadvantages by a huge amount, in fact there should not only be testing but subsidies so everyone can switch easier.
