Can I ask Des for an update on which of his TC devices he is now (or still) most happy with? I've been agonising about this question (for myself, not any of my customers) most of this weekend since I decided I really ought to give this a try and update myself about the current equipment. All advice welcomed, but bear in mind that I'm as parlously broke as ever (thinking anything over £50 gives me the shivers) and I only wind or replace coils with premade wick and wire on grounds of poverty, not by choice!I know I'm classed as a Vendor here, but I am only able to work at supporting my existing (mostly face to face, non-internet savvy) vaping customers part-time, and this is more of a semi-voluntary social service than a business for me. It's a big (and rare) week for me if my turnover hits three figures (ie £100+). Yes, that is turnover, NOT profit, which is usually less than (often well under) half of that. I'd be willing to get hold of Ni200 or maybe even Ti wire from Stealthvape to keep something going if TC ticks my personal boxes sufficiently for it to seem worthwhile, but no way I can start experimenting with umpteen bits of kit if it doesn't. Two out of Des's three were already front-runners, partly due to TW/TECC's 25% offer - which expires today. They both have the advantage of coming with suitable tanks attached, and I don't currently have anything like that I could slap on a separate battery. I don't think I'd ever even heard of Dovpo until I tripped over them yesterday while poking about in FT, so know nothing at all about them aside from the fact that they exist, and I wouldn't have wait till about October if I wanted one. Most of the others on FT (Authentics, anyway) are preorders with weeks on 'em. Any other entry-level TC devices which other AAEC members would recommend for a temperature control virgin? vaporshark rdna40, Sig 75w tc, cloupor gt80 When this place has stock they are very good prices www.kingzofvapour.com/collections/variable-voltage-mods

Said it before, and I'll say it again - love my Sigelei 75w TC mod. I don't really use it with Ni200 very much, but aim to play around a bit more during those cold summer winter evenings, once the technology has advanced a bit! Can't therefore vouch for the battery life with only 1 x 18650 but takes a mini-USB charger, so not really a problem.

Most of the others on FT (Authentics, anyway) are preorders with weeks on 'em. Any other entry-level TC devices which other AAEC members would recommend for a temperature control virgin? Hi Tetsab, OK here's my thoughts a few weeks down the line owning the three TC devices : All have been used with : Subtanks Ni & Kanthal, Ego Mega One (excellent) with Ni & Ti, Aspire Atlantis 0.5 ohm OCC Kanthal and a Magma dripper with Ni Coils. iStick 40W TCA great little device, not missed a beat, everything connects with it. Battery life is a little poor, if I was leaving the house early in the day then I don't think it would last me all day probably until early evening but I am a heavy vaper. It seems to read the coil resistances well and has a easy to navigate menu system. One thing you need to be aware of is it has a fixed wattage output at 40 watts, so it is a warm vape. Taking a long draw you can feel the temperature alter, between warm and cool as the TC cuts in and out. This does not bother me but may bother some. Pros : Easy menu, small, TC works well for me, nice and neat especially in it's silicone sleeve, feels nice in the hand, the ability to vape whilst it's charging (passthru) nice bright display. Cons: Battery life, 40W output only (though not an issue for me), however it is quick to charge. My score 8/10 Dovpo TC-50I bought this off of phatfil a small box mod, again everything connects ok. Battery life from 2500mAh Samsung 25r is fine and of course it's easy to carry a spare, probably not much difference to the battery life of the iStick. You cannot charge and vape at the same time. The menu system is a bit cumbersome but you can change both the wattage and the temperature, works fine. Cover is not loose and slides in plus has magnets to keep secure. Pros: Small, ability to swap batteries, TC works fine. Cons : You cannot vape whilst it is charging the battery, cumbersome menu system, display has a mirrored front making it virtually impossible to see in sunlight, edges are very square so does not feel so comfortable in the hand (I need a silicone case!) My score 7/10 Evic VT TC 60WI paid just under £50 from Bargain Coils for the full kit. Battery life is very good as it contains a 5000mAh LiPo battery and will easily last a day probably a day and a half for me, for many Vapers possibly 2 days. You can vape it whilst it's on charge. It does take some time to charge however, from flat around 5 - 6 hours its drawing 850mA when charging. Everything connects fine. The menu system is easy enough although I'm not totally sold on the toggle switch to change settings. Once again you can change the wattage and the temperature to tailor your vape. It feels quite substantial in the hand with a nice heft weight, although it is no VTR! IMO the kit is a very good buy as it includes the excellent (IMO) Ego Mega One Atomiser plus a Ti & a Ni coil unit which sells elsewhere for around £20. You also get a silicone sleeve to keep your new toy nice and scratch free, you also get a charger and a USB lead to charge your device. Pros : Nice build quality device with excellent battery life, good bright display and a good menu system, TC works well. Kit very good value for money. Cons : Built in battery, hopefully should last at least a year but only time will tell. My score 9/10 In conclusion : All 3 are good devices! I am a full TC convert, it's not that hard to get right and I have even successfully wound my own TC coils. Looking ahead I think my next TC device may be the new Joyetech eVic VTC mini as it uses 18650 batteries, has Upgradeable software and has dispensed with the toggle for navigating the menu. Does that help Tetsab?

Interesting post DiscoDes, but my advise to the OP would look for a 2nd hand DNA40. Particularity reading your description of the iStick vape and how you feel the temp limit working, DNAs are very smooth and the pre-heat gets you up to temp almost instantly and I find that this makes shorter drags more satisfying and eliminates the primer puff completely. The larger pre-heat on the DNA200 takes this further and I am vaping less liquid for the same satisfaction compared to the 40, I noticed by battery life rather than tracking the liquid consumption a 950 mAh (10.5 Wh) battery last me as long, and some days longer than 2 x 25Rs in the DNA40 (18 Wh). It could be that I use ribbon wire on the 200 (too low R for the 40) and that accounts for some of the effect, same atty, wicks & wattage just the coil and pre-heat are different, so YMMV.

I've found the istick tc a little strange. With a bigger tank like the Lemo 2 you don't notice it but with a small tank like the goblin mini it has a very obvious pulse. It throws 40 watts at it and then cuts in and out to regulate. It works but it's certainly not a smooth consistent vape whereas my DNA 40 you barely notice the regulation

To all the gents who have been kind enough to respond to my plea - many thanks, most especially to Des. Brilliant info, could not have asked for better. Spent most of yesterday poking about in ECF, UKV and here, but decided here was the best place to ask for sensible advice. I was not wrong! OK, so I now have even MORE hot prospects to look into but have crossed a couple OFF the list in the shape of the iStick and Dovpo.
I'm very much seduced by the thought of the EVIC Mini, but not keen to wait too long before getting my toe into the murky waters of TC and the Mini means waiting! I need to look into the DNA40 and Sigelei 75 in greater depth, but also tempted by a sleek black SXK60 (mainly due to the Nickel Purity setting facility) or even the Heatvape Invader Mini - I'm a pretty clumsy mare at the best of times but that looks tough enough to survive me quite well...
Any further comments about these or any others still welcome, even if I may well be up all night looking into them! Thanks once again.

Tetsab there is a HCigar VT40 one the classie on UKV for £75, bit expensive, but you may be able to knock him down a bit. New £90 @ VapeGeek £15-20 less than the new price the seller quotes.

Thanks for the tip, VapingBad (great nickname, btw) but I think that's beyond the budget. Currently looking as if it is going to be a black SXK60, which seems to offer the maximum flexibility for the minimum cost. This, along with a Subtank Mini including the RBA and some Ni200 OCC coils for it all appear to be gettable from 3FVape.com for a touch under $90 (£60) unless anyone here has a better idea? Haven't pressed the button on it yet but looking quite likely right now. May well then start yearning for the EVIC Mini, but if so that will have to be in another month or so - by which time there may be some reviews around for it!
Only thing really left now is to check out what are the best batteries (18650's) to get for either?

Once again, much obliged.
I know the batteries are the bit I really shouldn't be a tightwad about, so should just bite the bullet and squeeze one of the credit cards till it screams!
