An interesting theory Andy, but I'm not convinced! Jim I'm not saying that the caramelisation doesn't occur Jim jevans , but a higher power does prolong the life of a coil to a certain extent. The power helps to burn off the crud, whereas at lower power, the crud sticks around and slows things down! I'd agree wiv this in general....but I've found, wiv 'Powwow sauce', specifically, the higher the power, the sweeter it gets. This was the 1st 'premium' liquid I vaped, in a mini-protank 2. Tried some again last Xmas (Magma, 0.5 Ohm, on the Nemi.) & it was turning My teeth sideways!! Too Sweet & 'Custardy' for Me....tasted better (for Me...) when I whipped out one of the coils (1.0 ohm) & used the I-stick, set at 8W. YMMV, Natch!

jevansI picked this up from the tutorials I watched Jim, I worked on the assumption that if they were doing the tutorials they know more than me I assume that this height gives the best flavour and performance but I have not experimented I have followed like a sheep so I could be wrong

You know goneforagasper I've never read a more honest post. chykensa has vastly more experience than I have. When I was vaping coffee based concentrates, I was lucky if the wick/coil lasted 2 days. Increasing the wattage only gave dry hits, bringing the coil up to "red" was the only way to burn it off! Then of course rewicking. You must remember these are the ramblings of a newish member. Jim

Just a quick update. Well the Digbys Apple Pie test was encouraging, so I ordered some new juices, this time 70/30, all custards with various twists (side effect - I'm addicted to Custards now). The wicks are definitely lasting longer and because I have been messing around trying new juices I am not sure yet how much longer. I'm currently at the end of day 2 though and will be running this one until it needs changing to see. No sign of it yet. (I'm keeping my Manabush in the KFL for evening treat vaping as I love it so much.)
Interesting side note with the Subtank Mini. I have taped over one air hole window (one side) and at my usual 1.8ohm (10w), with the smallest airhole fully open on the exposed side only (obviously), I honestly can't tell the difference now between my genuine Kayfun Lite v2 and the Subtank Mini. I can't believe such a simple fix made that much difference to the Subtank Mini. I know some people might mock me for doing this to a popular subohm tank, but the taste and draw from the Subtank is spot on now for a MTL fan. I feel like I learn new things every day with vaping.
I'm guessing less air throughput might help with wick life as well? Not bothered either way really, the draw and taste is worth it regardless.

Less airflow makes the coil hotter, so you might find it gunks up faster, unless you release the fire button before you stop *drawing* on the tank. That way you will cool the coil and stop the juice caramelising on the coil/wick. It means less flavour/vapour, so, if you don't mind re-wicking, ignore what I said.

Cheers Tim. I decided to change the wick this morning, not because it needed it but I was interested to see the state of the wick/coil on the 3rd day. The wick was fine, just slight darkening where it meets the coil, but as you stated, the actual coil had more residue than I've see before (that said I have never had a wick go 3 days before).
I've been used to changing the wick every day, so every 3rd day is no biggie and I now have great flavour at low watts and the perfect draw for me. I'm feeling pretty pleased to be honest :-)
Thanks as always to everyone for their help and advice!
