Got home measured everything with a multimeter and nothing out of ordinary... Plugged the battery in, not firing... Flipped the switch, pushed the button and... It works as it should! It only seems that the adjustment stopped working, so need to check 555 timer and components... Vapes like a charm though on a 0.11 ohm coil. More pics when it is all tidied up and case is finished

sydsut not results really... As it happens the 555 tomer went for unknown to me reason as took everything apart and there must have been a short somewhere to kill it... @windows & VapingBad can I use ne555n instead of ne555p? Not sure if it would be good enough and can't find a b&m shop with 555p's near me The closest is maplin but they only have 555n's.

Probably they are a standard timer chip that pre-date eCigs and the letter is probably a packaging code, I'll have a google for you.

@windows & VapingBad just went through data sheets and it seems that they are same except the packing which concludes that I can use it. Thank you for your help guys and I'm off to join the facebook group mentioned by @windows. Maplin tomorrow it is then! Edit: This isn't as won't be here tomorrow so I can finish this damn box for vaper expo in nec for saturday! Which looks not likely anyway but is worth trying for!

N & P with transistors denotes basically whether they are on or off. That is 1 is off till you hit a switch and turn it on the other is on till you switch it off.

It's not a transistor, and your are thinking of field effect transistors, the far more common bipolar transistor come in pnp and npn (p for +ve, n for -ve, as in turn come on junction diodes). The p and n for this IC are just a bit of the part numbering system I think they were from different manufactures originally, its an vary old generic chip.

I am in a right pickle with this now... So the NE555N is all done and sitting there properly but the mod doesn't fire at all... All that happnes is that the IC is getting really hot and nothing? Also managed to break the legs off the pot and replaced it with this from maplin. Is it the pot at fault (i.e. not the right one)?
