We've had decades being brainwashed by the ANTZ into believing smoking & nicotine are the mother of all evils, subliminally countered by big T putting god knows what into their products to make them more addictive. Add to that every time we had a ciggie it was a little act of positive reinforcement, it's no wonder our brains go a little haywire occasionally

ionian yay really glad to hear that, little bugger. Must admit one of mine is eating a particular kind of ornamental grass from the garden, it isn't poisonous but it's really tough so it comes back up almost straight away, & why is it take he has to come running into the living room to puke where there's carpet instead of staying in the kitchen on the tiles Some supermarkets are now labelling, bunches of flowers that contain lilies, with a warning that they are highly poisonous to cats. I wish they would all do so & that florists would do the same. Hope your cat is OK ionian. One of my vets almost lost her kitten due to lily poisoning - it was touch & go as to whether he would survive I didn't have a clue about lilies & cats until I had my eldest at the vet for a check up & got chatting to a woman next to me who'd almost lost her cat to them. She'd bought some arum lilies reduced from Tesco, & she'd actually seen her cat brush up against them & get pollen on itself & never thought anything about it till a couple of hours later the cat become really ill & collapsed, luckily it pulled through with no permanent damage, but she'd fished the label out of the bin & there was the tiniest warning on it which had been covered by the reduced label I don't think she actually sued but she did get some compensation & an apology from them as a good will gesture. Also at the time mine weren't going out unsupervised cos the garden wasn't secure, which was just as well cos I had one of the proper huge half barrels which was bursting with daylilies, every colour imaginable, it was a gorgeous sight when they came out, but they never got a chance to flower that year or every again. I couldn't even give the bulbs away to neighbours cos we have too many outdoor cats roaming round the gardens

Mrs ionian hasn't been very well - her mum thoughtfully sent her flowers a couple of days ago. Included in the bouquet were oriental lillies. They went on the dresser, where the cats can't get at them, and we thought no more about it. Today Buttons has been off his food until this evening when he wolfed back a bowl of dry. Shortly after he threw it all back up again. Lillies are (I now find out) highly poisonous to cats. Like, life threateningly bad. However, I can't see how he's eaten any of them - he couldn't get to them, the only way is if a small amount of pollen fell on the floor, but there's no evidence if this (lilly pollen is pretty lurid and big in clumps). He could be off his food because we've recently changed their diets as we prepare them for adult food. And we've been letting them out of the house this week for the first time - buttons has been out for around 3 hours today, and could have eaten something, or been stung, or anything. He could just be sick because sometimes cats puke, especially young ones who eat too quick. He'll go to the vets in the morning, I know it's not something to muck around with and the flowers have been hastily removed (we've got a sample for the vet) but I'm just worried that I'm putting two and two together and making five. Your'er not over-reacting & if I was you I would have had him to the vet already, but definitely don't delay getting him there tomorrow. Don't forget animals especially cats are very good at hiding the fact they're ill & cats will very often purr when they're poorly or in pain, so even if he's purring please don't automatically take it as a sign he's feeling ok.
