I dont think this guy was pulling a flanker. I honestly felt he had just messed up and was really embarrassed. He was agreeing that he would have to leave his car at the petrol station until he could pay, and he was ok about it coz he thought thats how it worked. If he drove off, hed get arrested. I looked at the guy like he was just a normal bloke and not a chancer. I'm going through divorce right now, moving house, direct debits dumped on me money go from my account I weren't expecting etc etc. But I really didn't think that bloke was a chancer. If it happens regular by the same person, then again thats different. A case could be bought against them. But it appears that the staff have a mindset. Start of as aggressive as possible and then up it. Make up lies if you have to.

Just spoken to OH about this, he was in bed last night when this thread was started.
He said it happened to him once before I knew him. He'd left his cheque book at home without realising and the garage let him go home and get it, but kept his almost empty wallet and wrote the details down from his driving licence, which he kept in his wallet, then gave his driving licence back to him. He went straight back and paid for the petrol.

The amount of times I've went to Tesco, got my shopping had it put through at checkout then realised I've put my purse in a different bag is actually unbelievable , but its a bit different when its petrol and you can't apologise and put it back on the shelves. However I was under the impression that it was 72 hours you had to pay the money back not 24 but that could be an urban myth anyway but like others have said though they do keep a record of the plate numbers and if the guy knowingly went into the petrol station without enough cash he would have just drove off wouldn't he ? Sounds like he got a bit of a rough time for an honest mistake if you ask me.
