me doesn't get on well with wasps. It is a hate hate relationship.
Love bees tho'. Watched a documentary about the lack of bees & it seems it's because of a parasite that has started to infect the bee population & is killing them off. I think scientists are trying to find a way to destroy the parasites without harming the bees.

Since this thread was started, new answer, our ruddy house! Killed 4 inside the house, 2 outside near the trampoline, and sprayed by the wheelie bins Not seen any since Been a bad year for bugs, slugs snails and toads of done well though Have seen a fair few butterflies, mainly red admiral, cabbage white, and the pale blue ones whatever they are called! Bumble bees and bees, even some english blacks - and they're rare, obviously a local hive somewhere ..and on that note

You should have screens for your windows. We all have them around here, the fresh air comes in, but the bugs stay out.

I haven't seen more than a couple of wasps all summer, in the SE of Ireland. Flies and houseflies seem scarce this year too and the bee nest in my soffit had a burst of activity last week after months of nothing happening, then it went quiet again. However, nature comes in waves and while flying insect numbers may be down this year (perhaps caused by the wet summer) I've a feeling next year might see them explode to compensate. Species tend to up and down as conditions dictate food supply and when food runs out they lay eggs and die down again.

Come to think of it, insects have been scarce around here too. I haven't seen any hornets, bees or yellow jacket wasps, for a while.
I don't miss the yellow jackets, they are aggressive and I have been stung by them a number of times, including last summer.

Wasp population is now at least minus 20 Going assume there is a nest close by, the cold snap and wind has stopped them today though, only got 1

My Sedum in the front garden is in flower now and yesterday it was literally covered with wasps,I don't particularly like them but I am pleased they are still around and pollinating.
