Hi all,
I want to make a coil for the penelope at about 2.4 ohms, which wires do I need to buy and any recommendations as where to purchase ?
Thanks
Neil

Welcome Nellie . . .
I'd go for either of these two for your non res:
10 Metres 0.2mm Soft Fine Silver Wire 99.99% Ref: SI0200-010
10metres 0.236mm Nickel Wire Ref: NI0236-010
The silver is nicer to work with.
Then for your res wire, either:
10 METRE 0.16mm Nickel Chrome Wire Ref: NC0160-010
10mt 0.212mm Nickel Chrome Wire Ref: NC0212-010m
You might find the 0.16mm a bit easier to start off with, I'm not sure. The finished ohms will depend upon the length of wire used and how many winds you put on your wick . . . with either.

You will see that on the site it tells you the resistance in ohms per metre of each of the nickel chrome wires, so that for instance, the 0.16 is 53.7 ohms per metre, so if I want a 2.4 ohm coil I need (2.4/53.7) X 1000 = 55mm. If I am joining this to no resistance wire I add about 10mm or so to allow for the joins.

Personally, I would go for the .20 ni-chrome from that site, it's good wire. Reason being, you will need a longer length of .212 wire to reach 2.4ohms than you will with .20 wire and penelope doesn't have that large a ceramic channel to fit the resulting coil inside
5cm of .2 wire will give me a 2ohm coil INCLUDING 3mm each end for connections and that makes for plenty of turns/coils on 3mm wick
