Hi all, I am completely new to all of this, so much so that I haven't even bought an e-cig yet! However my partner doesn't smoke, and I feel it’s about time I started to get myself healthier, and save some cash, so I’ve decided to give this a try with a view to giving up the tabacco. The things is, having read some reviews and a lot of the posts on here, there appears to be a dizzying array of products to chose from and I have no idea where to start? I saw a site for 'smoke relief' e-cigs that look like a cigarette and all you appear to do is add a cartomizer of nicotine which looks easy enough, but I really just don't have a clue and would appreciate some advice from people in the know.... ??? Many thanks.

Hello Just don't hurry, and don't spend too much (or be fooled into thinking the more you spend the better "it" is) at least to start with. You could have a decent idea of if vaping is for you for about a tenner.

Hello & welcome Cambo How many cigarettes do you smoke a day? The ciggie lookalike e-cigs have a very short battery life before needing to be recharged , so unless you are a very light smoker, they wont cut it for you.

www.cavecom.com/screwdriverSD/shopSD/socialsmoker.shtml would be perfect as an introduction (if this is the style you are looking for). Don't worry too much about the taste at first, you will find a taste you like, this may take some time Don't expect a burning tobacco taste because it is impossible to replicate... after a while vaping you probably won't want to replicate it either

Thanks guys I appreciate your help. I probably smoke between 15-20 cigs a day, depends on how bad my day is! But I do smoke lights so the nicotine is only 0.6mg - does this make much of a difference? Oh also, I work at a computer all day, so was thinking with the USB ones i could just keep it charged up for most of the day....

At 15 -20 a day, the social smoker that Tommk linked to would be OK for trying out, but you would need to recharge the battery every couple of hours. Smoking lights, will only make a little difference to the e-liquid strength you choose.
If you are at a computer all day, then a passthrough type e-cig could be a good idea. however, I find it best to use a passthrough via a mains powered USB hub, as it;s just not worth the risk IMHO of a passthrough drawing too much power from your PC USB port & damaging the motherboard.

I'm not too bad during the day at work, I only tend to pop out for 2 breaks during the day, so I might give one of those a try to begin with, it will be the evenings at home when I smoke more, or when i'm having a drink! Thanks for the heads up about the usb charger, never thought of that, maybe I could look into getting one with a usb and a mains charger. The Smoke Relief one came with a charger that you put the battery into.... has anyone had any experience of that company? Being a lights smoker, which strength would you recommend I go for? Sorry for all of the questions, but as I said, I really am completely clueless.

Welcome Cambo,Nicotine strengths are different for all of us,as are the things we get along with,I smoked more than you around 20-30 a day although I moved to roll ups so it would be x amount of tobacco a day,I started lowish on 12mg but found I needed to go higher to keep the cravings away,so I now vape 18mg,you may want to try some samples at 12 and see how you feel,if you find yourself chain vaping and making yourself feel a bit ill, then lower it down,if you find yourself still craving cigs then try upping it a bit,its a bit like I drink 3 pints of beer and fall over paddy drinks 8 and has a laugh at me

Don't apologise for asking questions Cambo, that's what we are here for A good mains USB hub that many of us on here use is this one - www.ebay.co.uk/itm/7-Port-USB-2-0-HUB-External-UK-AC-3A-Power-Adapter-PSU-/280522733324?pt=UK_Computing_USB_Cables&hash=item415075370c but they are out of stock at the moment, hence the silly price to keep their ebay position. When in stock they are about £6 ish from memory. Never tried Smoke Relief, but from looking at their website, their mini starter kit isn't a bad pricer, but their prefilled cartomisers wont last for for the equivalent of 20 cigs, more like 10 cigs if you are lucky. However, you really do need a starter kit with 2 batteries & their "deluke" RRP is a joke. At a 15-20 a day smoker, I'd recommend about 18mg e-liquid.

Hi Cambo One thing to think of is the Look of the thing. Is something that looks like a cigarette important to you? If not there are, as you say, a lot of choices. I would be tempted as a first try to look at the Cavecom.com site mentioned earlier and maybe look at the Screwdriver Keyring on there. It is automatic, no button to push, and is physically small enough not to feel bulky as a new user. It uses tghe common 510 cartomisers and the screwdriver prefilled ones are available in a few places, they can be refilled if you want to get into that. Don't worry about it being a small device for through the day if you're only using it a little bit. The single battery won't last you very long but it might be enough to tell you if you want to take it further or not without splashing too much money out in the beginning. A similar sized battery is the Mini Ego kit. I got one of those and they are small and good! The kit, with a few cartomisers and a charger, is under £22-00 and a spare battery is about £9-00. Those and a small bottle of juice would be a good way to go if you feel relatively confident that it will work. Whatever you try I hope you find it is good for you

Hello & Welcome
I'm just another newbie and there are real experts here, but then again I was where you are now at only a month ago, so I may have a clearer idea of what you need..
A couple of general points:
I wouldn't expect to get your ideal set-up first time round. It doesn't matter - in the long run you'll save enough compared to smoking so you can afford to replace it.
Tommk is probably right about getting a decent vaping experience for a tenner, but I wouldn't try to do that - expect to spend £30 to £50 on a starter kit and juice.
You don't have to stick to one supplier. If you buy a kit with 510 in the name, anybody else's 510 batteries, cartomisers etc will work with it.
Bigger batteries have longer life and are cheaper in the long run, but if you think you'd be more comfortable with something cigarette-sized, then I wouldn't worry about battery life - just get more batteries. I'd get three or four. One will usually be on charge. I don't see the point of a pass through - it's easier to have one on charge while you use another.
You can just buy cartomisers pre-filled with liquid and screw them on, and yes, that is very easy. But you won't save much money that way and the choice of liquids is very limited. So I'd strongly recommend that you plan to add the liquid yourself, which is also pretty easy. You can add it to the cartomisers - search for wetyourstick cartomiser refill for a video demo.
Another option is to buy atomisers and cartridges instead of buying cartomisers (a cartomiser is just an atomiser and a cartridge built together into one piece) The cartridges are a easier to fill -search for nicfitnation e cig refill for a video. This also gives a slightly different vaping experience.
My specific recommendation, for what it is worth: Starter kit 510 Traveller from OK Smokey, mainly because you get two small bottles of juice with it and they have a good range of juices. Pick a flavour that sounds like your cigarette brand, and get one bottle low nicotine, one bottle medium. If your pc at home is a laptop, get a mains charger. I'd also buy some cartomisers, so that you can see which method you prefer. The ones recommended most seem to be Boge 510s - you'll want standard resistance at the moment - available from VapeEscape. You could get prefilled cartomisers from there - see if you like their flavours.
Whatever you get, if it doesn't work for you, come back here and tell us. There are lots of knowledgeable people who will help you find something that does work.

Hi Cambo and a warm welcome ...i would suggest a starter kit like this one... you wont need to worry about batteries as one of them will last you the whole day on a charge and the kit gives you really nice performance ...the e-cig may look a bit bigger than a cigarette but you will soon get used to it

If it's not important for you that it looks like a cigarette then I totally agree with gordy re the riva. It's what I have now (have had 2 kits before both cig alikes) but compared to the riva they're rubbish!!! If you do decide you want one that looks like a cigarette I'd suggest this. Charging up the pcc over night means your battery won't wear out during the day as the pcc keeps it charged. I did like mine a lot (but the riva is better!) be wary if you Google search for a cheaper price though, they sell them on jacvapour not sure if they're cheaper or not BUT the thread on them is 801 where as vapeescape and most others are 510. Don't worry if you don't know what that means just yet, but to put it simply it's a lot easier to get things like cartomisers with the 510 and if you move onto a bigger battery one day anything you had for the innokin should fit the bigger battery. The only reason I changed to the riva was because my innokin came from jacvapour and I was very limited to things I could do with it - you might feel like you don't want to experiment with different things atm but trust me once you get started you will lol!
