NOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooo their back in Watford (school kids) for weeks its been a pleasure to drive,now I have to share roads with all the mums that have kids incapable of walking,pointless 4X4s and people carriers,roll on the next half term

I drive a truck and its been bliss for the last few weeks with everone on their hols and no school run
Its gonna be murder from now though.
(I reckon I have saved the nest part of 1 hr off my driving per day this last few weeks)

Since i'm one of these mum's with a "child incapable of walking" doing the school run each day, i shall just turn round and go straight back out of this thread before it really gets my back up.

Never mind ladies as they shut the North circular road in London,I got to work in two and a half hours this morning,instead of 25 minutesl,so you can have a laugh

BUT.... 95% of kids walked to school when I went, I had about a 30 minute walk to and back every day, it does seem like kids have lost the use of their legs? Can't the parents just get their kids up in time so that they can walk?
I know there will be exceptions, I accept that but there are also many that could walk surely?

Right here we go, ill say this as calmly as i can. Like many of us i walked to and from school each day , never had the choice of a lift either.

BUT

Sometimes i CHOOSE to take my child to school, especially when he has a huge bag full of books and pe kit etc or if it's raining or if there is some undesirable around who is trying to get kids into their car as was the case a couple of months ago.

To me his safety is paramount at all times, i don't care about ignorant people who complain it takes them longer to get to work because it also takes me longer to get to work also but hey it's live and let live.

Maybe I put it badly Nicky and I never said the traffic increase was down to all mums using their cars,many have too and on occasion so do you,many dont and there are a lot of lazy people that cant get up and give themselves time to get their kids to school without jumping in the car but down here the increase is ten fold,its horrible to drive,the trains are packed and there is a lot of unnecessary driving by thoughtless people.I would gladly sit in a traffic jam if I knew it meant your children were safe.

Anyway sorry if the original post offended anyone but Phoenix what right have you to call me or colliwobbles male chauvinist pigs,maybe I can accept I made it sounds like all women are responsible for clogging the roads with their kids,but that's not want I meant and why shouldn't I be able to discuss something without feeling like Iam walking on glass,if something offended you then say it and I can be the wiser and apologies if necessary,without being singled out as something Iam not and being called names

I thought it was light hearted and i am male sometimes chauvinistic and most definately a pig

it should also be pointed out that parents take their holidays to fit in with kids school breaks hence another reason for less traffic
I was not suggesting for a minute that we should compromise childrens safety by letting them walk to school, that is every parents choice.
I was merely stating how lovely it has been to drive on not so cluttered roads and saving myself time from work in the process

Lots of parents aren't at all happy for small children to hazard the traffic.

Yep is was light hearted,but never mind,I don't mind if people want to turn it into a discussion and no clutter It wouldn't and parents can walk too,so little children wouldn't have to hazard traffic on there own

In some of the schools near me they have a walking bus where a couple of mums/dads/teachers shepherd around 10 kids to school. I think that's a fab idea. Obviously it doesn't work in every case but I love to see initiatives like that (and will happily sit and let the 12 ducklings walk over the road in front of me).

Not me i go in 5 weeks to sunnier climes.

I was not suggesting for a minute that we should compromise childrens safety by letting them walk to school, that is every parents choice.

Quite agree i've loved being out and about without the throngs of kids an cars everywhere, but hey ho if we want a future generation we have to have kids and we (mums) have to do what we have to do. [/quote]

They went back to school last week, over here. We have town run school buses that take the kids to school. They either walk or are driven by their parents to the bus stop, where the bus picks them up and brings them to their school. Then it's repeated in the afternoon, when the bus picks them up from school and brings them back to the bus stop.
