Hi Guys advice needed please! Ive been vaping for a whole 20 days now and am very much enjoying it, not been tempted to go back to my rollies either. Ive tried cartomisers and separate 510 attomisers and cartridges which were ok but have mainly been using a 1.6ml clearomiser (Vision eGo CE5 V3) which i really like. I just bought some new juice and got a similar clearomiser from the same supplier. I filled it with the new juice (Apple and cinnamon) and tried it out, first few times were ok but then it started to have a taste and smell of melting plastic. I removed the tip and discovered the surface around the sealing edge had softened and i could scrape it away with my nail. I then emptied the clearo out and found the inside of the tank bit was looking melted and cloudy. I guess something in the juice reacted, i had heard of menthol cracking some tanks (which is why i didn't try my raspberry menthol in the clearo) but not any other flavours. Has anyone experienced this and can anyone recommend and clearomiser type devices that will not react like this. Cheers Al

Hi Al, Sorry to hear about your clearo cracking, unfortunately it is isn't just menthol that can crack tanks, some fruits and cinammon are quite well known for it too, there was a list somewhere of juices that are known to crack polycarbonate (what a clearo is made of) tanks, but I'm sorry I can't find the list ???
There isn't much you can do with Vision Ego clearomisers other than not use those types of juices in them, but if you had something like a viva nova you can buy metal tubes for it, or any other type of stainless steel tank would be fine

I've not come across it myself, but have heard of juices damaging the poly carb on the tank, and there does seem to be a selection of juices, it seems to be to do with the make up of the juice. As for softening/melting the plastic, that sounds more like a heat related issue, and not a juice issue (tho I may be wrong here). I am also a fan of the Vision ego, and just ordered a V3 "replaceable" version, as it was a few pence more then the non-replaceable.
I would look at the atty rating and the power the battery is kicking out, it could be that your wattage is a bit too high for the clearo.
To be fair, I have 3x i3/ce2, a mini nova, 2 CE4/CE5, and now getting another, and I have used a variety of juices (different brands, pg/vg mixes, nic levels, and flavours), and I've not had any real issues with any of my clearos

Can't remember where our list is . . . here's another though from ECF. Sour flavors Malic acid Citrus acid Cinnamon like "atomic cinnamon" types, not warm cinnamon like cinnamon coffe cake, this is okay Wintergreen juice or flavoring TPA ripe banana flavoring TPA honeysuckle flavoring TPA maraschino cherry flavoring TPA cherry blossom flavoring TPA root beer flavoring Mrs. T's strawberry shortcake, snickerdoodle KBV Hummingbird nectar mimosa(because of the orange) cola(because of cinnamon)? Vapor Renu Teaberry, cherry vanilla (possibly most of their flavors) Vapor Renu Mt. Dew baha blast and Strawberry limeade Oil based/e liquid that conains essential oils, when mixed with pg/vg, creates esters which will crack plastics E liquids that contain triacetin, used in vg liquids to carry flavor more effectively Vapalicious Gooey Butter Cake Nutmeg Clove oil Mt. Dew flavoring TPA Cinnamon Danish flavoring Sassafras Rawrvapor Hawaii Sunrise TPA Vanilla Custard flavoring Tasty Vapor Cherry Cola Vixen Vapor Rootbeer TPA Pineapple flavoring TPA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream flavoring Vaporgod Licorice VAL Goddess Lorann Butter Rum flavor Alien Vision's Pineapple Pulp ECBlend's Gingerbread, double flavor Virgin Vapor Luscious Lime TPA Spearmint flavoring Honeysuckle Vaporbomb Fire 'n Ice(cracked tank, melted rubber drip tip) Perfumer's Apprentice lists triactetin as in ingredient in some of their flavors, so be sure to check that out. Disclaimer: These are not "bad" juices. They just have the potential to cause cracking in tank systems using polycarbonate tubing.

Also (and weirdly) different colours of the Vision Clearomisers react with different liquids. TPA Granny Smiths Apple will crack a blue one, but not a clear one

Yes, it was a Blue Clearo. The trouble is that it was so long ago that I cannot remember what juice was in it at the time.

Al, its probably the cinnamon that caused it. I had a CE4 crack like an eggshell using DV Kola flavours

Well i decided to to try the juice in my other clearomiser which seems to be of a better quality.... It melted that one too, just took a bit longer so i now have two clearos that taste of melting plastic! Lol! Some good came of it though cos i had to buy a mini nova along with a steel tube and drip tip to replace it got some LR cartos too and a new ce5 but that is just going to be used for safe juices! Will be trying the apple and cinnamon in the mini nova with the steel tube and tip, lets see it try and melt that!

One of the reasons that I like Clearos and the Viva Nova tank is that although they are wicked, I can see when I need to refill so that I never let the wicks get so dry that they burn out.
How would that work if I was using steel tubes? Do I have to keep opening them up to check how much juice is left?

I haven't used steel tubes on a nova, but the Penelope is stainless steel and you can't see into that when you take the top off, you can't tell how much juice is in there unless its full, but you can just sorta tell when the vape starts to drop off, plus after a while you would get used to how much time normally passes before you need to top up.
