Well...Thought changing the micro filter had cured the problem, but it appears not. My housemate isw using her wireless laptop downstairs & doesn't have any problems, so I reckon the only thing I can try now is buying the switch mentioned in this thread & using the ethernet cable...........can't believe this is causing so much hassle.......

Before I end up lobbing this pc out of my bedroom window, I've now ordered an ethernet hub switch, in the hope that it will cure this problem once & for all.................... >

chris - sounds like there are two seperate issues here, 1. the intermittent wifi connection and 2. the intermittent broadband. 1. on the upstairs pc, download and run inSSIDer, to map out the wifi channels in use around you. If you find your router is operating on the same or adjacent channels, inSSIDer will help you pick a channel with as little interference as possible. Log into the router's interface to change the channel if needed. www.metageek.net/products/inssider/2. Is your line LLU or are you on an IPStream connection? If on an IPStream connection then the worst thing you can do is to keep disconnecting the router, especially in the evenings. This will kick off the Dynamic Line Management system into reducing your line speed as it'll think your connection is unstable. Can you post your line stats? Find these by logging into your router and you want the up/down line speed, attenuation and snrm. This will give an indication of whether you may have a line fault or not.
