Tore is the yellow line, she started out on 17 Aug and is still causing heart attacks, she must not take off over the sea to the south-west But she's really enjoying herself on a Cornish estuary, has been exploring a very small area for a couple of days. Bynack is flitting between Belgium and France, he started out on 21 Aug. The Google Earth updates are few and far between, leaving much room for angst.

Thanks for the update scylla; I'm cross with myself for worrying so much about 'our' birds - just can't seem to help myself! D1 is now many hundreds of miles from her cottonwood tree in Iowa - she's buzzing around in the Wisconsin wilderness just now. Fox

I'm cross with myself for worrying so much about 'our' birds - just can't seem to help myself! They get right under your skin, don't they? A report today says that Boy Bynack is still pottering down thru Belgium/France, taking his time - but Tore is "10 miles south of St Austell", which to me means she is in the sea If she doesn't redirect she'll end up having to brave the Bay of Biscay or she may even start out over the Atlantic, which could equal curtains. I'm beside myself. Chrissie!!! Please go out with binoculars and a lasso and save Tore from herself scylla

The satellite report of Tore 10 miles south of St Austell was a mistake ??? She was still just the Cornwall side of Plymouth, in a fishy estuary However, an osprey has since been sighted over Carclaze, St Austell (my old stomping ground), flying towards Par, which means that Chrissie must go out with her binoculars If it's Tore, at least she's flying east to west, but she really should be crossing the Channel by now. I've found out that southern hemisphere ospreys don't have to migrate, lucky things. Our northern birds face the most terrible hazards Here's a lovely pic of the Perth mum and dad perusing their first egg (they laid 3, only one chick made it - one was bullied to death and the other was weak and starved ). scylla

Can't make head ner tail of the map ??? I'm pretty bad with Google Earth too My 2 osprey juvies are frustratingly hunkered down in their respective patches, Tore in Cornwall, Bynack in France, flitting about their patches and not getting on with the journey to west Africa. This year's fledges from some other nests are really showing them up Now the weather is too bad for them to move safely. Hundreds of Manx shearwaters and some other birds had to be rescued from rough seas when they started their migration yesterday (?) in wild weather - so far about 80% survival rate, a lot had to be euthanised, the survivors are going to have to stay in rescue centres until they're fit to fly. We haven't lived scylla

The Big Fight! Quote Dyfi Osprey Project:
On September 8th, 2011, we saw two fledgling ospreys fight on the Dyfi nest almost to the death. Leri had her brother pinned down on the nest with their talons hopelessly locked together and after around 15 minuted it looked like Dulas had died. Remarkably, both birds managed to unlock themselves after nearly 20 minutes and fly off. In opposite directions! They have edited out a long period when Dulas was inert. They've asked for emergency satellite tracking, Dulas, if not both of them, may be seriously injured. scylla

Well, it was interpreted as a fight but after thinking about it I reckon it was a fish-grabbing tussle that got out of hand when they couldn't extricate themselves. There's often a "fight" when a fish arrives, but those Dyfi chicks are much more aggressive than our darling Loch Garten babes But I'm very biased of course Talking of Loch Garten babes, neither Tore nor Bynack have budged from their respective stopovers, but I'm told that's not unusual. Some of the other birds have made fantastic progress, it's awesome! scylla
