Refilling Cartridges??

Not sure if I'm not refilling properly or if its just me and changing taste buds.  To explain as best I can I prefer carts as they have given better vapour & throat hit, use the condom method for the initial fill no problems, I've had so many flavours on the go I've made a right hash of 3 carts by topping them up with the wrong liquid as a result I've got minty choc fruit and I'm not liking the choc element *bleuchhh*  4th cart I filled with Grants Vanilla Custard, yuk thats just not for me. 5th cart has my fav flavour in it black jack but because I've been fiddling around with others I think it may have dried out - does this happen if they aren't used?  Anyway I thought I'd topped it up with the drip method last night (quite a lot of liquid seemed to eventually come out the bottom) so I tried it and it tasted rank.  Few more drops and it tastes as bad if not worse tonight.  I'm now prefering the clearo because its a better taste, hit, vapour than the carts I have left!  (I have more on order btw)

Questions are... Have I fried the black jack cart?

If so how many drops would you be putting in to refill a cart?  Does it take as much as the initial condom fill?  Why can't we refill using the condom method?

Also a question for the mods, would it be ok if I offered the sweet ones that aren't my thing in the beginners threads for other newbies to try before they buy?  They aren't worth selling and I don't want stuff in return so I thought they weren't suitable for classifieds etc?

Morag if the blackjack carto is still producing vapour you haven't fried it. But - the coils in cartos do get gunked up and that can make them taste pretty bad. Give the carto a thorough wash through in warm water and let it dry (on a radiator if you want to speed it up). When it's dry re-fill it condom method and you should notice an improvement. You can also try washing out 1-3 at the same time.

I used to fill via condom every time but really all you need to do is fill them once then just keep topping them off keeping the top of the wadding "wetter than a wet thing" cant remember who said that but it always stuck in my head
I also used to save the awful tasting ones then chuck a bundle of them in boiling water to wash them out and as one day said stick them somewhere warm to dry out and start again
bear in mind though these are disposable and can have a life span of a couple of days to a couple of weeks
if you get a burnt taste they are done for because they have dried out and burnt the filler material the taste of which will never disappear

Thanks I've tried the blackjack cart and its not producing vapour so I'm guessing its fried I'm going to try refilling using the condom method see if that makes a difference and keeps it wetter than a wet thing!

I'll give it a go washing out the others with the mixed up flavours in them see how that goes

You could always use a syringe to fill up. Say an 18G needle (can get off ebay/amazon) and some 1ml/3ml syringes...

It's another option...

I have plenty of needles (though short of syringes) if you want 5 sending. Just pm me

Morag, the condom method is great for filling em up to start with, but they're best off being filled by a bit of dripping at the top once you've done that. You can flood them if you only use the condom thing and they do wear out. How long have you used those cartos ? If it's anything past a week, then they can just die. Some of them do last 2 weeks, but htat's being optimistic although I only have one carto that really has 'popped', where the coil has actually burnt out.

Look up some youtube vids on cleaning out carto's or at least run them through with hot water and let them sit for 24 hours. There's a bloke called PBusardo on youtube who does a great video on how to clean out your cartomisers.

Johanino, I never even thought of using a syringe and needle and I've got!! duh @ me but thanks very much for the offer To clarify I ordered along with my Riva kit just incase anyone thinks I have them hanging round the house

Figgis, the blackjack one has been most used and it went funny after a week I think but I was trying other flavours and did try the blackjack again without topping it up. It probably dried out. Thanks for the link, v clever and I'll have a look at some vids and see how they are cleaned.

Morag, don't be too disappointed if the cleaning doesn't work. I gave up trying to clean my cartos yonks ago. As I used to smoke on average 50 a day ready mades, I don't mind chucking my cartos, even if they only last a couple of days of very heavy vaoing

Thanks Chrissie I think maybe I was expecting them to last 2 weeks ish I'm thinking the fav one lasted a week of moderate vaping - that's about right? They aren't expensive either (when compared to £6-ish for a packet of cigs) That's alot of cigs to give up Chrissie, well done The vaping must have been an incredible eureka moment for you!

Morag, they can last 2 weeks for some people - depends on how much you vape & the quality of the vape you want. About March last year, I bought a few hundred boge cartos (along with a few hundred ml of juice) from Health Cabin when they were having a sale. The cartos worked out at about 50p each & the juice about £10.00 for 110ml. So I am saving an absolute fortune compared to the £17.00 or so a day I'd be spending on real cigs these days. hence why it doesn't bother me to chuck a 50p carto in the recycling bin after a couple of days & also wouldn't bother me to chuck one that cost just over £1 from a UK vendor

Blimmey you wouldn't half be a fortune to smoke that much, rough calculation based on the number of cigs avoided is over £25k and thats on a base of £6 a pack of 20.

Plus the health benefits, happy days

Having said that me and OH smoke 3 packs a day between us (and the ashtray but it doesn't chip in to pay for them) which is quite horrifying when you think what you'd do with £25k *sob*

This is what i do, never fails.

The second you get a taste change (you can tell when you taste it) top them of from the top, about 10-15 drops as the condom method has already soaked it and made it's path for the topping off.

Thanks I had a bit of running through the bottom when I tried to top them off from the top so wasn't sure how much actually stayed in there!

Will give it a go with my new cart and I'm not using more than one at a time this time round.

It really is quite frightening how much I used to spend & even more frightening how much extra I would be spending now
