But yes, now he is older he just needs to control his itch to fight extremes and write some more books or find something new to do. I suspect he's going to find typing a bit on the difficult side, now though. Still, it's another challenge for him.

I would suggest to him that he quit the Polar nonsense and take up a nice, safe hobby like vaping. I still have all my fingers 2 months in, even from extreme and intense e-juice exploration.

Ok you have convinced me, we should all immediately stop driving flying riding bikes even the push type, horses well there as dangerous as you can get, stop all forms of winter sports, in fact people should not be let outside if it's even forecast snow, much as they do with schools nowadays, stop all forms of motor racing, and all types of running, gym work, heart attacks are far too common doing this and is their fault when they require treatment, sorry dee diving is definatly out, and as a last point no power tools to be allowed in anybody's home, then we shall all be really safe, and won't have to call out the emergency services for something that was preventable, may have missed a couple of hundred things but you get the gist. Now we could do all that, or we could all get a life

Yeah, Blue, I get your gist and agree to an extent, but this man is doing all this in the public eye for nothing other than his own vain glory and gets a Knighthood to boot. He is held up as a hero of sorts and we are all to wail in sympathy when due to his ignoring his medical condition he potentially could be losing some digits? He's a silly sausage.

And I see the other side sam, but calling for people to pay for this and that is the same banning e cigs, or putting up petrol, or this tax or that tax, it's fine unless it affects you, and then it's oh woe is me it's so unfair. And I'm quite sure that on his/their expedition they had arranged some medical cover beforehand, the helicopter involved for medivac was probably the same one that dropped them off.

it wasn't a rescue mission. he waited to be picked up and you know what else? it was by people who have chosen to do that as a job. maybe we should tell them to go work in Tesco where its nice and safe.

He has true Old School British spirit and admire him for it. Yes he's getting on a bit, he raises money for charity, he cares deeply for the safety of the people around him, but as for his own I'm not so sure. He'll only stop when you see an article in the paper like this: "Sir Ranulph Fiennes has still not been found after his attempt to be the first man to reach the North Pole single handed on a Zimmer frame" God bless him.

Bollocks !!!! The people that go out to rescue him are the ones I feel sorry for.........I dont do heroes that are ****ers..... Same with these ****ers that go Pot holing in the Yorkshire Dales......They all end up being rescued....... Its the people Rescuing them that have all the S_H_I_T_E You Sir talk BOLLOCKS !!! While I agree the rescue people are also to be lauded as was said they are mostly volunteers trained in specific rescue skills. They want to be doing it and giving their time to help. I come from the Scottish Highlands and every year people die up in the mountains - I know people who work rescue up there and again they want to do it and take pride in helping. The rescues in the mountains are in some ways more complex since they usually have little idea of location of those in trouble because they do not register an exact plan with anybody before they go. In comparison I have more respect for Ranulph because he was on a carefully planned expedition and as was said when trouble hit he sat tight and waited for help - they knew exactly where he was and were in contact with him.
