Trouble is, the poor unsuspecting people who are being ripped off by these cig-alike companies, only find out they are being ripped off when they find a forum like this to open their eyes.

Hi Duckman.
Sadly, the brave new world of the internet allows anybody to sell anything at any price making any claims. The only time it would be stopped (on an individual basis) is if a) trading standards get involved or b) an irrefutable lie had been told or c) they incurred the investigation of an ombudsman or trading body.
It would be practically impossible to stop any e-cig brand advertising their product as "being the equivalent of 100 cigarettes" or "containing the same nicotine as 50 cigarettes" without finding a legal route to stop them. 100 silk cut, when you only take 2 puffs before stubbing it out or 50 cigarettes with a special filter on them that removes 90% of the nicotine.
The reason why it doesn't happen so much with most consumer goods is that actually, telling lies in the long run is bad news for a company. Consumers should at least (under normal circumstances) expect marketing hype to be somewhere close to the reality. BUT, not for e-cigs.
I know, as I've looked into pursuing one of the biggest names in mini e-cigs for telling porkies and conning me. I would run out of fingers counting how many companies claim that using their e-cigs will save you £1,000s a year. Most of them probably aren't even suitable to get you off the fags (unless you are a light smoker).
I don't know VIP, but if you have been hard done by, welcome to AAEC. We know what's going on.
Vive la révolution!

I think we've all been suckered ... having said that trying cigalikes is the best first step since their starter packs can, with discounts be cheap, and the learning curve is not steep. We need the advice to recognise their limitations and not revert to old habits ... it's a voyage of discovery but at least my first cigalike proved to me that the concept worked

b.t.w. It has crossed my mind that some of the big companies are actually downwright bare-faced liars because they want to make as many sales as possible, as quickly as possible before the e-cig liquid effective ban come in. If there is some sort of reprieve, I expect at least some of them to modify their claims in the hope of keeping (not loosing) long term customers. Compare Jacvapour to the big boys. Totally different ends of the spectrum. For example jacvapour.com/index.php/faq/ Honest and reliable information. Nice.
