I'm no expert but I have a Mac and have a desk-top Mac at home for 7 years and I haven't 1 problem with it, I saved up and got a mac book pro for £1k which I thought was a very expensive outlay considering I could get 2 Win lap tops for about that. I've had the laptop for over a year and it's as good as the day I opened it. I've got to say that they simply work with no fuss. Over the years at work we have purchased many, many PC laptops but since the transaction to Mac we have significant'y reduced our lap top purchasing and problems. I know it's all very in vogue and it's all trendy consumer based marketing but I really think the build and quality of the mac will out last the Pc for many years. Just a thought...

In the "early years" I was confirmed anti PC person, the first computer program I ever entered and wrote was on a Apple IIe computer which was the computer at Plymouth Polytechnic where I worked at the time. The first computers that I owned were a Commodore 64, Commodore 600 and Commodore Amiga 1200. I loved these machines and they had roots with many of the Apple people. But eventually I "gave in" to PC's and have had a few, I know they're flawed but compatibility with my Work PC and systems is important to me so I will stick to PC's, for now. I acknowledge that Apple computers are extremely well built, but software is not so prevelant and often more costly than software for PC's this is another factor that keeps me with Windows PC's.

Windows 7 64 bit is most stable general public operating system, Windows 8 is for tablets or touch screen devices, Intel have always been faster than AMD but AMD are cheaper and can be overclocked, unlike the latest Intel stuff, windows Vista is a system / memory hog and equivalent to windows ME which was a disaster. Windows XP is a good operating system but getting dated and security flaws are starting to be exposed and not supported / repaired by Microsoft. Try Ebuyer for a laptop, will be cheaper and better spec, are you a gamer ?? if not then the graphics chip is not as important to you and it will be a whole lot cheaper if you dont need it. hope this helps I would normally go to Ebuyer or PC specialist (my main rig is PC specialist) but I have some Debenhams vouchers. My current laptop is a Toshiba with a 2 core AMD processor and it runs sooo hot, my work lappy is a i3 and is lovely, that's why i want a i5/i7 I used to be a MASSIVE gamer, but not any more, I was in a clan and one time was in the top 20 Half Life players in the UK, but I just lost interest in it in the end, getting too old I guess. Too OLD! Don't use dirty words on this forum Des, You are never too OLD to play games.

My first computer was back in 1981 when i bought a ZX81 BTW i'm not still using that now. lol
I'm on a laptop using Windows 7 at the moment. Just thought i'd let everyone know that Microsoft are about to update Windows 8 and bring back some of the old features such as the start button. I think they will probably call it Windows 8.1
