My desktop PC has died and is away to have a new one built with Windows 7 on it.
My laptop is not far behind it with all sorts of programs causing it to crash, so when the new desktop arrives, the lappy will go in to be upgraded and Windows 7 put on that as well.
My "pet" Mr. PCman reckons Windows 7 has a minimum of a 10 year lifespan.

Thankyou, maccafan that will do for me & I'll have a look into the HP program too & hope that I can use it. I envy you having a 'pet' PCman, lobeydosser , wish there was one around here. Thanks for the saying what he said about W7, that's my mind made up on that now.

jess watch out buying a french one, with Windows 7 Home Premium on it. My mates mam bought a lappy in France (admitidly Vista), and was not able to change the language to English, without upgrading to the Professional version. Just a heads-up. You may be able to sort something with the store prior to purchase. Also, is a french keyboard not a different layout?

www.ebuyer.com/store/Computer/cat/LaptopsJess try here, or have a look at Dell, much better deals and UK based too, if that one goes wrong it will be a nightmare for support, also as Fred says it may be French only version of Windows and different keyboard layout.

I Break em. The thing is that if it is just a softwear problem, he can fix my PC by Remote!!!! Over the internet, he can take ove my PC and work on it from his own home. Its brilliant and will work anywhere in the world.

I've never thought of or looked into changing the language, which is daft, as this dying lappie is a French Vista with an AZERTY keyboard. It is a different layout, but I'll admit, I now can't use QWERTY. When I visit my sis, unless I take mine, I have to edit so much, that I now don't bother going online with hers. lol I will have a look at that link though, thankyou. lobeydosser LOL You lucky devil! I like the fact he can work remotely, but he's too far for me to do a flying visit.

Jess, He works from Helensburgh on the River Clyde and sorts out computers anywhere in the world from his own home. He even looks after computers on board ships at sea.
If you have an Internet Conection, he can sort your PC as long as it is just a software problem.

Really? That is certainly worth noting & I think you'll be getting a pm shortly, thankyou. This one is going down the pan for more than software problems, but when I've had problems like that, he would have been handy to know.

There's many of us out there that work and sort out poorly-running machines remotely...I have to admit it's a godsend being able to work from my own machine rather than always having to trek out...the really annoying thing is having to re-connect after rebooting the poorly machine

Gunjack, in this day & age, you're needed!! Well, the shop sold out of the HP I linked to, the day before I could get there. No Windows 7 to be had anywhere, so I've ended up with a Samsung 350E7C 17.3 inch Core i5 Windows 8 Laptop. It is going to take a lot of getting used to, that's for sure. At least on start up, I could choose English language, so that makes a nice change. lol

Good luck with it Jess . . . I'm nursing my Vista laptop along, although I'm never quite sure if it's my internet connection to blame some of the time.
I've been looking but only Windows 8 seems to be available now, sooner or later I'm going to have to take the plunge like you.

I remember having an epic and now historical rant about Samsung 4 or 5 (?) years ago. i.i.r.c. they were one of the first makers to go exclusively to hard disk drive recovery. No rescue disks or anything. I rate Samsung for most things now, I expect the laptops are no exception.
