Hi everyone. I haven't started a thread for so long that i had to pm Don to find out...lol
Anyway. The reason for this thread is that last night i went and plugged my battery in as it had flashed as it does when it runs low. Thing is the charger light stayed green. As though it was fully charged. I have another charger (the same) and tried to charge my battery with that one. But the same thing. Lit up green. It's a manual battery and doesn't come on when i press the button on it's side. Strange thing is. This battery had worked really well for 2 days. 12 hours more than i usaully get out of it. It's the first battery i have had that has died. Has it died ??
FYI i have always charged it as soon as it runs low (flashes). I have only charged it for as long as it takes (never overnight). I have always cleaned the thread before connecting for re-charging.
I've had the battery 5 weeks. Is this about right or a bit premature ?
Sorry for being soooo long winded.

you should normally get a few months atleast from a battery but they can last anything from a month to 18 month as they do seem to have a life of their own. do your other batteries charge with the chargers just to rule out a charger fault as they have also been known to break down aswell. ive never had a battery die yet so i cant really tell you what would happen before it dies.

Get some kitchen roll and get it down inside the battery connector. Give it a good twist around to remove any grime and then try it again.
If the contact is dirty it can cause this problem.

Sorry, missed your earlier note.
Doesn't sound good then and yes I would say 5 weeks is premature (assuming the battery is an Ego/Riva type 650 or above). I would expect at least 3 months from one under normal use.

i thought it was a bit premature. it has worked brilliantly till now. Is that it then ? when it goes it just.....goes ? I was expecting it to gradually perfom less and less well and then go.
It's an xp900. An ego clone.

Where did you get it from? Did it have a warranty on it?

I had one go a while ago and yes, it just packed in.
It was around 4 months old though. May be worth checking whether it is under warranty.

dont throw it away if it is dead and out of warantee as they always come in handy for the modders out their to strip down and use the 510 connection for box mods ect. if your compitent enough you could try and dismantle it yourself to see if the bottom wire is still earthing on the outer casing as perpy sent me a few dead batteries a while back that i was stripping down to use and managed to get them firing again albeit for only minutes before i chopped the batteries but it could be a simple wiring fault at the bottom end of the case. you will need an old metal atomizer (not clearo) to put on the 510 connector and wiggle away till you see the body come away from the connector then just pull the battery out gentley and you will see a wire running to the bottom of the battery that touches the casing inside, just make sure this is earthing on the outer body, failing that its goosed as the circuit board under the microswitch will have failed

Camper Del's Xp900 hasn't got a 510 thread, it's a Smoore M series.
Del, did you ever get your adapter?

Yes chrissie - i got 3 adapters 301 - 510. I got 3 joye 510 attys and 5 flat tip cartridges. The flat tip carts seem to be better for drawing on. Plus they don't seem to give you so much wind. I think that might be because you take in less air.
