Deffo reclaim the unused portion; after all, the car might not get sold on for weeks yet and the dealer's own trade plates cover it for tax anyway; so all you'd be doing is handing him a free gift which might be wasted - or he might cash it in, himself.

DVLC sent it back for them to do it, so a months refund was lost with the delay.
