If we p/x our car at a dealership for a newer one can we take the current tax off our vehicle and claim it back or is it all part of the deal.We would have to buy tax for the newer vehicle.

I've allways kept it for the refund, never had a dealer ask for it.

Its always a perk for the dealer when the car tax is left in, so I have always taken it out.

Deffo reclaim the unused portion; after all, the car might not get sold on for weeks yet and the dealer's own trade plates cover it for tax anyway; so all you'd be doing is handing him a free gift which might be wasted - or he might cash it in, himself.

You can claim back in complete moths only, so make sure you claim before the end of the month

And make sure you do put the date in on the form, a friend of mine forgot to do so . . . DVLC sent it back for them to do it, so a months refund was lost with the delay.
