Just popped down to the local shops & on my way back, the battery light came on & I lost the power steering. Limped it home & when I opened the bonnet, got greeted by a burning smell & a bit of smoke.....  .....After doing a bit of research, sounds like the alternator is kaput....bugger......To cap it all, gonna have to get a breakdown truck to take it to my mechanic who's about half an hour away.....guess who hasn't got AA or RAC cover?.....  |

Sounds like alternator belt has gone. Unless you have electric power steering, then I would agree it is more likely just the belt. If it is just the belt it would be cheaper to have someone come and fix it than recover you to a garage. |

Joined Green Flag, but forgot about home cover.....  ..plus, I lost the site before I could register a password, but after I'd filled in a quote & paid, so can't access my policy online & the policy documents are being sent through the post, so it'll be after Monday.......Surely, they'll smell a rat if I register today & then claim on Monday.........maybe a tow rope & a pull to a mile up the road is in order.  ....... * It's not electric power steering, so hopefully it's just the belt, but I don't know any mechanics who would come out. |
