It happens.
Not like I don't have anything to vape with so there are folks in a far worse place than me.
As regards the unicorn I will get my mitts on one in the end...always do through patience. Similar to fishing really if you wait it will eventually happen for you ... but hey sometimes it won't.

2mm Cable arrived today so set this up for my Temon using a D16 atomiser. Had a lot of trouble with hot spots so did away with the mesh at the top and this seems to work ok. I have some flat Kanthal arriving tomorrow so will wrap that on it and see what happens. So far it's vaping 100% better than with steel mesh so its a winner for me.

I got my wire and used a 2mm wick with mesh around the top, vaped very well, then I tried a 3mm wick by itself.
It vapes brilliantly, no dry hits at all, I'm loving this stuff. No real complaints and no or little downsides I can see.

Just tried my first SS rope & mesh wick. Took a little bit of a fiddle to get the mesh just right diameter wise since I like the wick to be snug but not tight in the wick hole on my Aga-T2's. Now wicking like a good 'un.
Used 2mm 7x19 rope and #400 mesh with 0.20mm Kanthal. I have the mesh going down into the wick hole a little and the vapour production and wicking are excellent and not much excess comes through the wick hole either.
I definitely have more than enough cable and mesh to last my lifetime and much more.

Nice one vereybowring, you should never really have to change the wick hopefully, just a new bit of mesh every now and again. I have some thicker steel cable here now, still the 7 by 7 format but 3mm instead of 2. When I get a chance I am gonna give it a go on one of my cheap did clones. I may have to drill the hole out a touch.

The 3mm seems to need a much higher voltage. Still experimenting though. I might try some mesh around the top of the 3mm as well, that's going to be one big boy!

I am starting to think maybe above 2mm is too much metal for the coil to heat up before it can get up to temperature itself womble

I think 3mm would be too big to heat effectively as well.
Also my gennies don't have big enough holes for it and I can't be bothered trying to drill out the SS to make them bigger.

OK yes, the 3mm needs preheating to work well. If you pre warm the wick with a 3 sec burst, the vape is much better. Might have to go back to 2mm with mesh again. I want to try without the mesh as well.
