This is a good site for many things. All I've ever had on the family PC is AVG (free) and Ccleaner. If you have too many spybots/registry cleaners malware program's they can conflict with each other. Keep it simple keep it fast. www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/That is where i get all mine from taz. Great site. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2

It's shocking what gets left behind in the registry. Uninstallers are renowned for leaving files that "may" be used for other programs. All of this junk gets loaded on start and soaks up valuable processing power. I use revo uninstaller to uninstall programs as it deletes all the bits normally left behind. Sent from my Galaxy Note 2 I'm sad, I use regedit still can't beat a manual uninstall to find all those pesky broken extensions heh.

Have you tried to stop some programs starting when you switch on you're pc causing it to slow down?
To do this click on the start button and type "msconfig" in the search bar. Click on the services tab and check "hide all microsoft services". then disable all of the programs in the list. Click on the startup tab and disable all of the programs except the microsoft one's and possibly the program for pc's sound.
It might help, might not but it's worth a shot.

May well give this a try Mp PC is unresponsive until it's been on for about 20/30mins. Yet nothing appears to be running in the background. She is getting on a bit now though

Mp PC is unresponsive until it's been on for about 20/30mins. Yet nothing appears to be running in the background. She is getting on a bit now though This is not normal at all, even on a 10-y-o pc.... 1. now you have CCleaner, open it, go to Tools (LHS menu), Startup, and it'll show what's firing up with Windows. Use the option to export that list as a text file and post it up here, I'm betting there's allsorts that can be trimmed. 2. Open Task Manager, and post the Commit Charge (if running XP) or the amount of RAM and what % is in use when idle. 2. Set Windows Update to Inform you there are updates, but to let you choose when to download & install them. 3. Ensure you have no boot-time/scheduled scans happening in your a/v prog. that'll be a starter for 10
