BTW there is no TAX on medical products. That might be where the whole thing falls apart. Governments are gonna want to tax this lark to make up for the lost revenue for ciggies. Personally I do think that some sensible regulations need to be put in place so that we, the consumer, know exactly what it is that we are buying. Other than that, let the market decide whats good and whats not (which it is already doing). For me, I want there to be the same info on juice labels as there is on food and toiletries. I'm resigned to the fact that eventually they are going to tax nicotine, basically because they can, and then we can all decide for ourselves what is best for us. A lot of us are interested in research into these things, I for one want to know if a particular flavouring has been shown to grown extra testicles on rats (or other less visually alarming stuff). There is no need to regulate it however, there are already substances that we, the market, are avoiding because we have some common sense. As to the nicotine, well that research has already been done, and no one is losing any sleep over it (unless they have been vaping 36mgs all evening )

The MHRA is NOT regulation, it is their advice to the EU. They are basically kicking it back to the EU, but they have to say something, so they have said this. So relax, stop panicing, it is an advisory note in an effort to back up McAvon, it is NOT REGULATIONS. Thanks for putting our minds at rest Thanks 4 help in putting my mind at rest too

Chief Medical Officer Professor Dame Sally Davies said:
“Smokers are harmed by the deadly tar and toxins in tobacco smoke, not the nicotine.
“While it’s best to quit completely, I realise that not every smoker can and it is much better to get nicotine from safer sources such as nicotine replacement therapy.
“More and more people are using e-cigarettes, so it’s only right these products are properly regulated to be safe and work effectively.”
Deborah Arnott, Chief Executive of health charity ASH, said:
“ASH strongly supports the MHRA decision to regulate e-cigarettes and other novel nicotine products – we think this is both proportionate and necessary. Regulation will ensure that e-cigarettes meet the same standards for quality, safety and efficacy as medicines while remaining as readily available to smokers as they are today. Crucially it will also ensure marketing of e-cigarettes and other such products is controlled to prevent their promotion to children and non-smokers”
Dr Clare Gerada, Chair of the General Council at the Royal College of General Practitioners said:
“Rates of smoking in the poorest in our communities remain high, and as a GP in a deprived area of London I see firsthand the deaths and disease this causes. The RCGP supports MHRA regulation of novel nicotine products such as e-cigarettes as this will ensure that they are of good quality and reliability and are effective in helping smokers who want to use them to cut down and quit.”

2 years to stock up on nic base is plenty of time , any vaper that's not already mixing their own juice should start educating themselves in the art because IF e-cigs are to be regulated as medicines then the price of juice is going to rocket

There's 2 ways of looking at this, get nicotine juice, as a medicine, to go into your non-medical devices. Can't medicinalise juice, therefore banning them, and having to get your juice from the black market/stock up. If the only issue is what is in the juice, then option 1 would be more likely, or will they try and medicinalise batteries, steel tubes, threads, wicks, coils separately, as we all know that we will be able to get these items separately.

I know we are talking lookalikes but it seems it may not be just chemists as anyone can apply for a licence to sell them.
They stressed that companies could seek to apply for a medicines license, and that they envisaged authorised products could be made as widely available as cigarettes in shops and corner stores.
Not that I think a corner shop would apply for a licence.

The whole notion is absurd, but we have many silly laws and regulations already.

BTW there is no TAX on medical products. But the cost of making them a medicine will boost the price up. Ultimately this is good news for those that want to just use look-a-likes, but for those that use egos/mods then this 'could' be bad news. But we will have to await the MHRA's full proposal. But we have 2 years to build up nic bases, and get replacement mods, atties etc. Or 2 years to fight the proposal, or both 2016-2013=3 There will be legal challenges. I am not going to panic yet. We don't even know the full scope of any recommendations yet. If it does all turn to shit then I will think again. But battery tubes and RBA's etc will still be available and there will be ways of getting nic base etc. Basically although feeling angry, I am trying not to over-react just yet. Totally agree there Roger, we have 3 years to sort this out, ECITA and TW aren't going to just sit down and do nothing, hopefully ECCA can step up and get involved as well. I can't see this happening, putting ecigs as medical devices has already been defeated in law in other countries in the EU.
