Today I had a lovely letter from HMRC giving me £300 for being a model tax paying citizen. The next letter I opened was from the student loans company telling me I owe them £13500 pounds payable IMMEDIATELY!!!
In a way I am very happy about this. By asking me to pay in full they have effectively turned this from a student debt into a normal debt. One that if I cannot pay in full they have to freeze all interest and accept a payment plan that is feasible for me.
I will be paying them £1 a month from here on in and chipping away with lump sums at random intervals.
Silly student loans just lost themselves a few grand in interest by trying to bully me.
Regards Jez

I've been deferring mine forever and in a few years time it'll get written off If you would like to pm me details on this I would be happy to do so . Unfortunately my student loan was taken out post 98 so it's the whole take it out of the wages without the need for a court order. As an update its not 13k they want its 1300 for overpayment of a grant so this one is not so bad. Regards Jez

My big loan is pre 98 but I thought modern student loans were taken proportionately from your wages directly by the tax man ???
My later wee loan is to be deducted in such a way, but I think I need to earn over £20,000 a year before payments kick in!
BTW, I'm in Scotland so things could be different!
