Mmmm...interesting take on the addiction thing. I always say I'm addicted to nicotine but I think I might start rephrasing that as others do correlate addiction to something that's bad for you....

Father Jack (LoL) does put the case for rephrasing it pretty well - i don't have an addiction to Caffeine - and i no longer feel or display Addictive behaviour to nicotine: whereas with smoking if i'd forgotten me tobacco and would be out for an hour or so i'd probably buy some more - with Vaping if me battery or juice should run out, i can easily wait till i get home

I see where he's coming from, but think he's drawing a false distinction between addiction and dependency based on harm. If we take his reasoning to it's natural conclusion before people understood the harms of smoking were they merely dependent on smoking? Once gags got expensive and we learnt about the health issues did people suddenly turns into addicts? Similarly if we discover that there are long term health issues with vaping and the Govt tax it like cigs does it change back from a dependency to addiction?
I think it's all semantics, I am addicted to nicotine, but I don't think that addiction is as harmful to me as an addiction to cigarettes.

Lol. Too right. I remember going cold turkey once and flipping out in a pub then searching for the nearest ciggie shop!! Now, I'd just shrug my shoulders if my battery died-wouldn't bother me.

If my battery died I'd be worried! Why do most of us have back ups in that case?

If my battery died I'd be worried! Why do most of us have back ups in that case? I could happily wait a few hours if I had to. (and have). I don't go out loaded with backups, though I have plenty at home. Horses for courses an all that!!

I could have gone 3-4 hours without a cigarette. I could go 3-4 hours without a vape, but why would I?

Addiction/dependency might just be semantics but if it's an addiction big pharma can sell a cure (that doesn't work but makes them millions). If it's a dependency then there's no illness and no cure needed so vaping is just an alternative to smoking and big pharma and big cig don't make any money

Semantics play a vital role in how we interpret the world - NLP etc show us this all to clearly. And in politics - Semantics is everything
