I thought these batteries were unprotected, but in my search to find out if they'd be suitable for a mech, i found a post on ECF saying they are protected? and a website stating they are protected as well?

As far as I know they are a chemically protected cell similar to IMR.
No protection circuit but constructed in such a way as to limit the risk of thermal runaway.

Best of both worlds battery. Unprotected so your high voltage mods work and protection for your mechanical mods.

digiw0rx They're not protected, virtually all IMR even ICR batteries have a temperature cutout fuse, but a true protected battery has a PCB which stops the battery being over charged (any good charger will also prevent this) over discharged, & over current, all of which can cause a lithium battery to become unstable & go thermal (venting, spitting out high pressure gases) which you don't want 5/6 inches from your face, cos that's the way it's going to be forced unless you have it in a death grip, if you want to keep your face. A protected battery also protects against shorts, but any electronic mod, even a vamo will do pretty much all of the above, so will a kick. You can buy protected pannies but because of the extra PCB they tend to be about 4.5mm longer & therefore too long for most mech mods, they also always have a distinct black band round the bottom, in fact virtually all unprotected 18650 + kick are to big. I pesonally would never use an unprotected battery (without PCB) in a mech mod without something like a kick, so because of that you tend to be limited to 18500, unless of course you like the thrill of vaping a potential pipe bomb. . . . sorry

I've seen that above video before, no bang i won't be taking a mech mod out with me with an unprotected battery, just playing with around the house
