So I've got my CBT next friday in order for me to get a 125cc scooter through the wheels to work scheme, but it works out quite expensive (although less than I'm paying now in taxi fares). It would be a lot cheaper for me to buy a bike and insure it myself. So i was wondering what 125 bikes can be obtained pretty cheaply? So far I've found i like the look of the Kawasaki BN125 Eliminator and the Yamaha YBR125, although I'm not sure how cheap I'd be able to find one of those for. Haven't actually got the money to buya bike yet but I'd prefer to know what sort of price range i should be aiming for.
Thanks in advance

No idea, but make sure you investigate insurance costs, they can be Higher than you might expect. Good luck with the CBT, I trained as an instructor a few years ago.

Thanks, I'll be sure to check the small print. No idea whether I'm going to be capable at riding a bike or not, I rode a moped once, briefly, about 10 years ago. People keep telling me how easy it is, I'm doubtful.

So you don't look like a fool, get a Hyosung gt or gtr 125. They are a full size bike with a 125cc engine. Faster than my honda cg125 They have a v twin engine, bloody fantastic bike, I wish I had never got rid! Mine was an 03 plate but the new ones are another breed!

Picking bikes up cheap is easy... I bought my 03 plate in 07 at £800 You don't really want to go too cheap or else your asking for trouble.
Could be stolen with new documents n plates, could be a lemon.
A brand new bike costs around £2000+ unless you go chinese but I wouldn't do that because of quality of parts and finding replacements when they go wrong.
You might not of heard of hyosung but they are Korean and coming up in the market... quite a few dealers in the uk now too.
Theres one in leeds which was great for me.

I have heard of hyosung, a mate had one and had no end of problems with it. I reckon I'd be looking at about 800 max really

CBT instructors are all enthusiasts, they are very good at what they do, they will lead you through at your pace so just relax and listen to them. Learning the controls won't take you long, the more you can relax aand enjoy it the faster you will progress.

I think I probably will enjoy it once i get over the initial bit. Oh yeah I definitely won't buy a bike without getting an insurance quote on it first.
It's a shame i can't get finance due to my poor credit really, as I'd love to be able to get one right away, although I'm probably better of using the scooter until I get used to the roads.

I knew 3 people with them before I got mine and every one of them were fine lol Another case of good evod bad evod lol If your wanting something with excellent reliability and a long history of excellence, go for a honda cg125. It is a bit no frills but does the job. I still see really old ones on the road, they have never changed the engine since it came out... it's bullet proof (you know what I mean)

Not a biker at all myself, but friends who are swear by punchy little hondas for reliability and cheapness of running costs and repairs.

The ybr comes very highly reccomended and as long as you don't prang it will be able to sell on for more or less what you pay for it.

Don't how big you are but I'm on the large size and got a Honda XL125 Varadero, V twin good for 80 mph and as reliable as they come. Bought it in 2007 serviced it myself, ran it year round in all weather and it's still sat in my garage just in case. Recharge the battery and it starts first time. Fully comp insurance for a 37 year old, in Bradford which gets hammered, was £124. Last time I insured it 3rd party, after my Benelli got written off, £6.46 after Swinton's cash back. Hard to beat but not always easy to find cheap.
