Maybe it's just me, and I have no way of knowing who and what was around at the time, but to me it looks like there are two different black fabrics. The one on your mother's sleeve is a fleece, it has big, fluffy, fat folds. The one to the right of the phantom finger looks a slightly deeper black and has crisper, thinner folds. I would therefore suggest that it's someone else's sleeve, right arm/thumb trying to support either the baby or your mum's arm. Except there was nobody there supporting the baby or my mum. Love this thread. So many different opinions and everyone sees something different. Just to be clear. It's not a 'fake'. I didn't stage it in any way shape or form. There has been no photoshop. I took a picture of my mum with the kids and noticed this. Well, as a skeptic then, there are three options: Your memory of the situation isn't perfect. Your camera or other soft- or hardware is faulty. Something weird/supernatural is going on. Guess it comes down to which you think is more likely

It was the last 'good' day my mum had before she passed. Her first chemo was the day after. Followed 6 months of hell and her passing away. So I pretty much remember everything about that day. We spent the morning with her best friend and the afternoon with family. I deliberately hold on to it. I could tell you the time. What she ate. What she drank. What everyone else ate. What made her laugh. I don't have any 'good' memories to remember after that day. Sorry, just realised that sounds a bit defensive. Not meant to be at all. Just explaining why I remember so much about the day.
The phone was absolutely fine. Took a lot of pics that day.
I don't believe it's something spooky happening. I can't explain it but it doesn't mean I think it's something supernatural. I think it's something strange lol. But do I believe it's some otherworldly finger ghosting around? No.
I'm leaning towards a glitch or a strange light occurrence etc.

Does anyone know if its possible for double exposure to happen with digital pictures? No not unless you have specifically chosen to with a DSLR camera. but even then it cant be a double exposure as there is no physical film to pass over the lens but rather a process of digital conversion from the CMOS sensor on an individual file. You can take long exposures, for fx and set light photos but no way could you take a clear photo of a finger like that and it happen to copy over to a new image in a digital format. That for sure is 100% debunked.

As I see it, something is either inaccurate about Jerri's memory of the situation, something has happened in a technical sense at some point to produce that image (the possibility is in fact there, could be any number of things), or something supernatural has happened. Bearing in mind extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof, I'm disinclined to go for option 3 personally. It's a question of probability.

Part of the data that needs an explanation is the line of the material I mentioned earlier. Why does it come down and stop at the point where the mystery item is? Doesn't this suggest that the two are related?
Another part of the data that needs an explanation is that the blob on the left end of the mystery item appears to be reflecting the baby's clothes and the arm above it. What type of thing could be doing this?

I get what you are saying Jen.
But It is 100% impossible to replicate that photo in error. Digital technology works in funny ways however there is a set rule of thumb when looking at something like this.
The only way to reproduce this is to do it deliberate. Not being funny so please don't take me wrong, I am just pretty confident with my knowlege with technology to say this. I studied computer science in University and we did indeed look into strange digital anomaly's but that would have been some level of distortion and not a pure clear image.
Its got me scratching my head over it. The acid test would be to have an original image, the RAW data file from the phone which would have to correspond with the date and time-stamp that this was taken. Even 2 mins out it opens up the avenue of fowl play. A tough one without having another witness with some kind of digital stamp file to confirm that this photo was indeed taken at the exact time stated.

Sorry to be argumentative jakethevape , It's highly unlikely that it happened by accident, but it's entirely possible You said "NOPE: Cant be, it is not possible to duplicate a photo over like this in a digital format to a new image. Especially on an iphone." I have to say I made a good living by doing exactly that.

Oh and while I'm on one, the iPhone has no native RAW support and you can't export RAW from iPhones. Unless the user is able to code their own high end graphics processing software they are getting JPEG. Now's your chance to come back with some info on JPV

I wonder if there could be another explanation, when you delete image they are still on the card minus the first letter so they are hidden, that's why we can recover files if the card isn't used, is it possible that a part of one of those deleted Images has shown itself.

The mystery is solved. I have just restored this picture for Jerri and the offending article was..... A hand and sleeve entering from right of frame, kudos to Jen and rich64

We know what it was just not how it got there. And more importantly I now have a lovely, finger free, picture of my mum and Megan.
