£325 for a bit of plastic with wires attached to a circuit board is an outrageous rip off. It's going to dampen my VF experience for both of us.

What you need is someone who is versed in joystick controls - like an aeromodeller who build their own kit and not an off-the-shelf buyer. I'd be willing to bet it's not all that exotic inside and likely uses some easily available/replaceable componentry or at the very least a more standard part can be adapted to match it.
I've been scunnered before by the outrageous mark-ups made on disability kit, by some right rip-off companies.
