Hey boys & girls - I'm hoping you guys can help me out - I've been lurking for a little while, hoping that the information would sort of implant itself into my head, but I'm still as lot now as I was when I first heard about ecigs...
Apologies in advance if this first post is a bit long, but I want to try & give as much info as possible in order to allow folk to advise me in possession of all the facts.
Ok, let me start with the basics;
* I'm 31, work full time & have been smoking for apx 9-10 years, and have been looking enviously at ecigs for a while now, but have never had the info to begin with any confidence.
Never anyone I could ask in plain English and even many basic FAQs seem to assume a level of knowledge I admit I don't have.
* I tend to smoke golden virgina, not much during the day, 1x or 2x in the morning, 4x at work, but a fair amount in the evenings - I get through 3x to 4x 12.5g bags a week, probably 15-20 (small) rollies per day.
This equates to apx £50-£60 per month in tobacco, plus obviously papers, filters, etc..
* I intend to start with a modest outlay, 20 quid tops and use that at home until I'm sure it's the right thing for me, and then once I know more about what I'm doing, expand the kit with specifically chosen parts so that it can sustain me for a full working day/out & about etc..
* As well as the obvious health benefits, I really want to be able to point to real cash savings (don't we all!?
), I want it to be that I'll
never dream of going back..
So that said, I've been looking at some of the kit that you recommend to people starting out, and I really like the look of the
Kanger Mini Pro detailed
here (even though I know it's not really a "starter kit"), with it's pyrex tank that I will be able to see clearly it seems solid enough, and only having one battery doesn't put me off, considering it only comes in at like £20.
So, let me run my limited understanding by you all, and please let me know if I'm roughly correct?
1) The 650mah battery will be ok for several hours of use, be that either a working day, or an evening (not both), but will probably want to be upgraded to something bigger if I want to last all day and evening, is that right? (this is why I assume so many people recommend a min of 2x batteries).
If so then I'm cool with that, once I've eased myself in I'm happy to pick up a second, higher capacity battery.
Batteries such as
these would make a decent upgrade once i'm happy with making this an all-day affair, correct? My original 650 could then be relegated to either backup or I can rotate/charge..
2) The tank that forms the major part of the kit (that lovely pyrex piece) should last an age, right? I see that they're sold
separately, does that mean they have to be replaced regularly?
If so, how often would they have to be replaced, and how does this compare to cheaper ones? I know a tenner isn't a great deal (at current prices, and I'm always aware that prices only ever go up), but considering I only burn through apx 3 bags of £4.50 tobacco a week, I'd hate to be having to replace the pyrex any more often than say, every month at the most, preferably every 2 or 3 months..
3) The
coils/wicks have to be replaced more often, I get that - apx once per week, right?
Another reason I like that mini protank is that it looks very easy to do your own wicks & coils for it, I don't intend to jump right in at first, but knowing that I can wash out the glass & re-do my own coils later is a big plus point.
So, going by the approx figures I just outlined, I'd be looking at an initial outlay of £20.
Let's say after a week I'm happy with going forward, so not including the initial outlay & extra coils that come with the kit, I'd be looking at (per month).
- 4x coils @ apx £1.50 e/a
- 1x pyrex clearo @ apx £10 e/a
<- (still not sure about this)- 2-3 bottles of juice @ apx £2.50-£5.00
(depending on preference/size)That would make a monthly total of roughly £23.50 to £31, down from my current spend of roughly £50-60 p/month.
Do these assumptions look about right? Did I already mention I would love to be able to replace those clearos less often..?
Anyway, thanks for reading all this, I know that looking at the pure financials isn't really the way to look at cutting out the fags (even that in itself is a benefit), but as I said, I want to be able to look back in a few months and see such a massive clear-cut benefit that I'd never even consider picking up some fags even if it is more convenient..
Thanks again! Jimmeh
