Have just spent 10 mins dry burning some protank heads. So, I can burn off all the gunk on the coiled wick, but can't really clean the extra wee bit that sits above the coiled bit and want to change it. What type of wick do I need? Guessing 1.5 mm silica??

When i rewick/coil i use 2 mm but looking at a spare new head just now it does look like its 1.5 mm on it.
Id just cut a bit of 2 mm and sit that on if you want to keep a flavour wick on it

lalWhen I did mine first time,it had 2 pieces of really gakky stuff on it - I replaced it with 1 strand of 1mm silica. It went funky after a couple of tanks, so next time I didnt bother with any - they ( who are they?) call it a flavour wick, but to be fair, I find the flavour is better without it I did need to re-arrange the coil a bit though, as it was glowing at one end long before the other - now if shuffled it, it's nigh on spot on

I just stick 2 strands off off an old but cleaned long wicked nova head in there. Seems to work fine when I cba recoiling. You can always use a pin to scrape away the gunk or even an old toothbrush, just make sure you don't melt it to the coils by brushing when it's still hot

Cheers guys, I never knew it was a flavour wick, assumed it was there to stop leaking or something

same thing Lal, It does plug a gap and happily it seems to enhace flavour for some folk. I personally use 1.5 silica as that's all i had to hand. Works fine for me. Very much a case of "suck it and see" I think. Regards.

Cheers guys, I never knew it was a flavour wick, assumed it was there to stop leaking or something I know some people call it a flavour wick but I'm not sure it does anything to enhance the taste. I use a piece 1mm wick just to stop hot juice from spitting up the tube. I wouldn't want to use a much thicker wick as it'd probably affect the airflow - you could maybe start with 2mm and remove one or two strands if necessary.

Cheers guys, I never knew it was a flavour wick, assumed it was there to stop leaking or something Same here, lal, but then I read "flavour wick" somewhere. (Maybe one of those things like "beauty ring"?) I could not be arsed with the faf of cutting a tiny piece of wick every time I had to clean it due to a funky ta ste, so tried with 1 piece, then none. As I said, I think the flavour is slightly better without, and I've had no leaking issues without it(I leave it stood up on my mini-LT overnight ). It may cause a problem in other cases - if it had for me, I'd have rewicked with 3mm rather than 2mm to 'plug the gap'. Now I'm happy, as I don't need to replace it every time I dry burn
