Hi all, I know this has probably been asked loads of times, I am trying to rewick / coil my rsst with 2mm ss rope top half wrapped in 400 mesh with .02 kanthal. I just can not get the coil to heat anymore than ground to coil & post to coil. I am pulsing short bursts to start then longer bursts even after 5 - 10 mins it still wont creep around i have tried tweaking the coil but still no joy, It eventually pops the coil on the hot spots. the air in here is getting quite blue. any help would be appreciated

You are making too solid of a contact with the wick, as a wild guess your coils may be too tight. 0.02 would be very thin, could it be 0.20 perhaps?

That's what I thought, but you did type .02 - the same point about being too tight applies.

I'll give the 3mm drill bit a try, It's odd I never had this trouble just using mesh, although, mesh is flexible & the rope is solid. doh!

The coils should be tight enough to touch the wick evenly, but not enough To hold it. The petarK drill bit method works well in that respect.

By the way the vg if thinned with vodka. The wick fires well should i open up the air hole to 1.5 mm as well?

I've been told that #300 mesh for 50/50 juices and #500 mesh for 70/30. I've only used 500 with 70/30 (pg/vg) and found that a tighter (solid) mesh wick works better than the hollow (straw) wicks as once you sort the coil out it holds juice better. Plus are you putting a tiny folded flat edge to your wick and rolling to the fold? stops any shorts as the wire doesn't touch the frayed end that way

Have either of you tried 2mm ss rope with mesh wrapped around the top, what a difference it makes to wicking, drilling out the air hole is a personal choice. I would try 1.3mm first

I meant to say 1.2mm hole, that's what I drilled mine out to & I'm happy with that, like I said it's a personal choice
