What is the difference between.....

Normal kanthal wire and the ribbon stuff? Seen a few peeps using the ribbon and just wondered what the difference is between them.

Putting in a mesh company order on friday so just getting things sorted. Will be ordering ekowool and normal silica plus some wire.

Rosco, the ribbon is flat as opposed to the wire being round. So more of the Kanthal is touching the wick giving a larger heating area and reducing the chance of hot spots, especially when using SS wick.

Great thanks greigster. Mainly using silica at the moment but going to try some ekowool and some steel rope in my rsst. Is the ribbon ok to use with all of the above?

I have used ribbon on Ekowool and didnt really see much benefit, but I have read that it is good for SS wicks so I would presume it would help eliminate hot spots on Steel Rope.

i only use ribbon on my mesh set ups -seems to reduce the 'boiled' taste i used to get with round wire.
