I wasn't sure where to put this but I have a problem. I bought an electric toothbrush. After reading reviews I saw a couple mention that you must get the correct adapter, as some don't work. I went to the makers web page, and unless I am reading it wrong it says to charge it, you need to use an adapter ( 2pin to 3 pin ) that is 2A. All the adapters I have found are 1A.
This is the description - It is not suitable for connection to a UK main socket unless used with a BSI or ASTA Approved Convertor Plug (Adapter) and fused with a 2 A fuse (fuse colour Black or Brown).
Where do I find a 2A fused adapter that is BSI or ASTA ???

Ah thankyou, I just change the fuse, I didn't think of that Mind you I would have asked anyway to make sure it was safe to do. Now you all know I will buy one that doesn't let you change the fuse

sammy13 These are not quite like an ordinary 13 amp plug where you would unscrew the cover to access the fuse. With these adapters, if you look at the side where the 3 pins are , you will see a little section (usually red in colour). Prise this out with a small screwdriver and the fuse will be visable. Push the fuse out of the holder side ways and replace with the new fuse in the reverse order. Note also that these low amp fuses are smaller than your normal household fuse so take the 1 amp fuse with you when you go to buy the new 2 amp version.

Ahhhh - now there's a couple of replies I get what you're after. Can you not just cut the shaver plug off and put an English one with a 2A fuse in it

I'm sure the adapter with the 1amp fuse will be fine. That's what we've used for years with electric toothbrushes, shavers etc ??? Sometimes reading the full instructions to anything can just result in stress

Remember xmas when you joined 10 sets of lights together by cutting the plugs off, and twisting the wires together, then wrapping them in insulating tape. Since vaping and hearing of exploding batteries I have become more how shall we say - observant of electrical regulation. Mind if my hoover breaks I will still take it to bits whilst it is plugged in lol

Thankyou, we have a little diy store here he will be able to get me what I need, although he will probably charge treble for it, the joys of villages. I'ts the easiest option for me though.

Honestly sammy13 just try the 1amp fuse. If it blows replace it. It isn't dangerous to use a smaller fuse, much more dangerous to use one that is too high! Edited to add - same principal charging batteries, you can use a teeny 510 charger to charge an Ego, it may take forever but will not be dangerous, however using an Ego charger to charge a tiny cig-a-like could cause problems!

Thanks, I am usually a risk taker in all dimensions of life really, reckless even- that is my nature - go for it- but it is the things I have read on batteries exploding and causing fires that have made me think about electrics in a different way.

Yes, but a 1amp fuse will blow before a 2 amp fuse, if there is a problem ??? Much more dangerous to substitute a 3amp for a 2 amp
