A call to all you evic fans and boffins. After months and months of flawless performance my evic has started playing up. The fire button cuts out after a few seconds and sometimes doesn't fire up at all. When it's playing up I can hold my finger on the button and watch the screen after a while it eventually fires (finger held on the button the whole time) sometimes for a second or two sometimes for the full 10. It's not the contacts or spring or anything like that. Everything cleaned with alcohol including batt terminals. Does the same with all attys. am I right in thinking the only way to get into it is to brake it? I'm baffled as the screen doesn't go off when it happens and the button works first time and perfectly for ALL other functions. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Chris.

Thanks for the tag Roscopecotrain. Toondog, my 1st thought on this is firmware. If you haven't done it already I would recommend that you download the latest version of MVR, do a factory reset on your eVic and then update the firmware. The symptoms you describe do not sound like a mechanical problem with the switch although it could still be an electrical/electronic fault. I would not rule out any spring, contact or switch fault at this stage as the eVic's electronics may be seeing something you aren't. Btw, you do not have to break an eVic to dismantle it, the head comes off if you sneeze! I have not seen the symptoms you describe in an eVic before and maybe somebody with more experience will be able to shed light on this specific fault?

I'm trying to replicate the fault Toondog. Is it possible that you are in RVV/RVW mode and have a badly defined table? If you have a leading time slot with a long interval and low voltage it may not be enough to fire, depending on your atty. I have a Nova with a 3 Ohm head which will not fire below 3.8v.

OK two new thoughts Toondog. 1. You didn't mention whether or not the eVic is 'seeing' the atty? Does it show resistance readings when you change head/atty? Do they match test meter readings? 2. I just tried a battery straight out of the charger and my eVic wouldn't fire. Try using a partially discharged battery for your testing.

Yup, looks like my issue was the protection circuit kicking in.
Battery at full charge 4.2v with 1.6r head, change to 2.2r and works fine, back to 1.6r won't fire.
Change battery to one at 3.6v and 1.6r head fires up fine.
So my eVic doesn't like low-ish Ohms with a hot battery?

Happened to me once, i had a torchy blue battery inside, changed it to a Efest battery and never had the problem since, also the blue torchy battery when at 50% power shuts down the eVic. p.s Happened on both of my torchy batteries Efest all the way for me now

Thanks ever so much folks, I'll give the firmware a go first (on .3 at the mo) the attys are all fine, terminator, vivi, protank all recognised and all over 2.0 as that's how I like it. I have the head on The BoD and that's all fine and clean and everything thing else is as it should be. The button doesn't misbehave in any other way with any of my batteries (all efest, pannys etc) so I'm hoping it is a software issue. When you say the head comes of easy raid2506 do you mean from the tube? I can't see a way of opening up the head withouth breaking the screen cover. Cheers people Chris.

That's right Toondog, unscrew the top collar and then the top cap will just pull out with a pair of protected grips. Sometimes they are such a loose fit that you can just screw in a carto and wiggle the cap off. The only time you will have an issue is if the eVic is 2nd hand and has been repaired before, many people use superglue to fit the top cap back on. Here is the factory reset info

Cheers raid2506 , by top cap are you referring to the connector? As in I can remove the connector from the plastic screen housing to gain access to the switch? If the update/factory reset doesn't work I'll try a bit of switch cleaner in there. I'll give it a go after work. Thanks again Chris

That's right.
The whole top part including the 510 connector and the drip well come off as one from the top of the plastic screen.
No real force is required, just a gentle back and forth rocking motion and it'll walk right out.

raid2506 well I've mangled a work around for now, factory reset didn't do it and all other functions work perfectly so I'm assuming the button itself is not to blame and as such I'm not gonna bother taking it apart. What I've done is set it to auto fire for 5 seconds and I've noticed if I keep my finger on the button rather than just clicking it to start the auto fire it'll happily fire for the full ten seconds. I'm happy enough with that. Cheers for all your help mate. Chris.

Cool, a bit of a result there.
I will keep my ear out for any further info which you may find useful.
