I posted here about a month ago, after asking for recommendations for a system to progress to. I bought a twin pack of Evods. You can see my review of these in the Review forum. But I'm struggling! Whether it is the Evod or me I don't know, but vaping just isn't doing it for me now I was happy with the vaping experience from clearos/egos but found them unreliable and often faulty, turning 'burny' or leaky within a very short time. But the vape they gave was good! With my Evod, I seem to have to draw much harder, the throat hit is often poor, as is the amount of vapour obtained - it's not an easy vape - you have to really work at it. And I'm just...not...getting a nico hit. And that means I am eyeing up the emergency pack of stinkies. Please help someone - I am desperate. I just don't think these Evods are working for me. They look/feel ok but just don't vape well Frilly Jane

Hi Frilly Evods are popular for good reasons, but some people (me included) don't get on so well with BCCs (bottom coil clearomisers) Top coil give a different type of vape which some people most definitely prefer. I would highly recommend trying an iClear16 which is a good vape in a different way. You may also simply be suffering from worn out or gunked up coils/heads. The part of the clearomiser that actually does the work. These don't last for ever, they need cleaned/changed regularly in order to keep getting a good vape from them. You could also try a VV (variable voltage) battery if you haven't already. Sometimes it is fabulous to crank up the volts and give yourself a bigger blast, and know that you can do it when you need to do it. Don't give up, we all hit the wall sometimes, and it is normally fairly easy to get past it

Great advice from dragon.
My question is when was the last time you cleaned the head or changed the head on your evods? And what level of nicotine are you using?

frilly[f Don't Panic"[/font] As with all things, a new item needs a degree of learning.. You say that you have to draw much harder? Not a common problem with Evods as they are generally a loose draw. (1) What Juice are you using, PG/VG Mix? (2) What resistance are your Heads? these kits are just about bullet proof, so I'm thinking it's a simple problem to rectify, I'll be around here for a while if you need any guidance..

Well, I've been using the Evod for about a month and the experience has been exactly the same with them from day 1 - hard to draw and not much vapour. Each time I refill I carefully wipe and clean them as much as I can, though I haven't dismantled them or changed the heads - they don't appear to need that. I have no idea what resistance they are - just the standard twinpack kit that is generally sold. (On a side note, these things are an absolute pain to re-fill. You have to turn them upside down and fill from the bottom, not from the top like with a CE4. And when you turn it upside down, the darn thing leaks all over your fingers - this is just from the remaining few drops in the clearo, not me being clumsy putting the new stuff in. It is really annoying - some sort of design fault? Surely this isn't the way it should work?)
I've tried a variety of juice in the Evod, using the same strengths/flavours I used with my previous clearos/ego - it was fine with those so should work equally well with the Evod?
For what it's worth, I have just tried an old CE4/eGo combo. Compared to my Evod, it is a million times better. But it only works for a few mins then starts tasting burny (cos it is old and really needs replacing!) I have no complaints about my Evod batteries - they seem fine - should I consider a different (i.e. non-Evod) clearo to use with them?

You said they have always been like this?, I'm thinking the stock attys are of a higher resistance than your old Egos... this means they take longer to heat up and function on a fixed voltage battery. Granted you could always go for a VV battery, but the initial problem would seem to be the tight draw..If this is so, a couple of things to try. Remove the head and have a look at the wick..Can you see the coil? If not then you have a flavour wick laying on top, just try removing a strand or two. Whilst you have the head off, look carefully around the collar (the bit that fastens to the batt) you should see a couple of small airholes. Use a pin or somthing of the like to make sure they are clear. Reassemble and try .. should have cleared up.. BTW If you are using a VG heavy juice it can have problems with wicking..(similar symptoms to those described.

That I would say is part of the problem if you've been using the same head for a month Frilly . . . on average I change mine weekly as the coils do become gunked with juice. They could be leaking because your juice is on the thin side if it's PG heavy, I use VG heavy eliquid have no problems at all. But all that said, it would be worth trying an Iclear 16 as not everyone likes or gets on with Bottom Coil Clearo's. Have you tried swooshing your juice around in your current clearos to make sure the wicks are kept good and wet. That could also be part of the issues with a burny taste you're having, the wicks are drying out.

Wicks in the bottom innit Perpetua on a evod? Yep they are Blue . . . swooshing was for the current CE4 clearos Frilly has and is getting a burnt taste with. If that's what you meant?

Hope you get sorted soon but don't beat your self up if you have the odd stinkie till you are sorted its the ones you have managed to avoid so far that count

OK, I have ordered some of those IClear 16s and also a VW battery. I certainly prefer the vape from a CE4-type clearo rather than the Evod. Thanks for all the tips about my Evod needing cleaning or heads changing - I've noticed that when I unscrew the bottom to refill it, it's very gungy. Actually, I'd happily part with my 2 Evod atomiser thingies if anyone wants them - I just don't think they suit me. The performance is the same now as it was the first day I used them - it's never been good really. (See my review.) So if anyone wants them (and the spare heads they came with!) let me know... I'll keep the batteries as they seem fine, though again, I prefer a standard button to the one on the Evod, which I seem to 'miss' or not press down properly. I think a month is enough of a trial period to properly test them but looking at the last few weeks, although I have continued vaping, I really haven't enjoyed it. So it's back to CE4 clearos for me. I've been using one today (an old one) and it is miles better than the Evod. And thanks also for the general tips on swooshing, etc. I now realise that the burny taste I was getting was down to having used the same clearo for months on end... hehe! (Well no one told me when I started that they wore out!!) Oh - did I mention I also purchased eleventeen bottles of juice and some flat mouthpieces? No? Guess I won't mention it to my other half either... Frilly Jane

Aww Frilly, I know all about that failing feeling Ive had more "fails" than a blind learner driver, but if I can do it, anyone can, so dont be disheartened. Your new purchases may set you back on the right road, but if not, read my thread "FINALLY" here in this section. Ive just switched to glass clearos, called SMOK PYREX ARO clearos, and its changed it all for me. I personally found them much nicer being glass and not plastic, the taste and vape experience is so much better! Like you I used evods, and although I liked them at first, the SMOK is a million times better imho. At only a quid more than an evod, it holds a lot more liquid so less time faffing about filling it, the glass just seems better, and I think they look good too (just bought a nice pink one, very pretty) If you new stuff doesnt cut the mustard for you, possibly try the SMOK? It worked for me, you never know it might work for you to? I love them.....my new motto is ONCE YOUVE TRIED A SMOK, YOU WONT GO BOCK. (I know it should be "back", but it doesnt rhyme )

Thanks Smokey - I appreciate the encouragement. (And I want those shoes!!) Obviously the Evods weren't right for me - I wanted to like them but this past month I felt like I was vaping a stick and it seemed pointless. I couldn't understand why I liked it so much before. My new IClear 16 DC clearos arrived today and I filled one and tried it - couldn't believe the difference and how good it is! But if these don't work out long term, I will have a go at the Smok you recommend. (Can you suggest a good source?) I have been looking at better quality ones and the glass versions appeal - they just seem more robust. I guess with the CE4/5 clearos it's a bit like pound shop lighters - you get what you pay for! You can buy 10 lighters for £1, but half of them are so poorly made they fall to bits before they've run out of gas. I'd much rather get 2 for £1 that worked... Mind you, when I used to use lighters years ago, I had some absolute beauties, so it's not hard to understand why I am so drawn to neat bits of kit
