Oooh. Just fired up a 1.1ohm Protank on a mechanical KTS. It's taken me 4 minutes to be able to see the computer. Oh, I can report 0.25 Kanthal is NOT the way to go for standard 1.8-2.5 ohm coils.

flynn - the wire and wick you are using sound right to me, so I wonder if there is something awry with your recoiling method. I had awful problems to start with recoiling Protank heads until Super-Shiny put me right and told me to make sure that the wraps were as close as possible but not touching in the centre of the 'cup' of the atomiser head (and not touching the sides either), and also to ensure that the legs which feed down through the centre hole don't touch the sides at any point otherwise the head will short and not fire. Could you let us know what resistance your coils come out at, how many wraps you are using, and whether or not you are using a splint to support the silica (what wick do you use?) wick you are using - for example, I use a thin needle just to wrap around, and then slip it out giving a fairly tight coil with enough room for the wick to 'breathe' and fee the coil with sufficient juice. Above all, just be patient and make sure you check for firing at all stages. Once I have secured my coil in the atomiser head I check for resistance and firing before replacing the top stem, then check again, and finally check again after attaching to the Protank body. I have had fails at each stage, and it's just easier to try and fix them as they happen rather than having to disassemble to whole bleddy thing! I think my success rate is now close to 90% but I am presently experimenting with microcoils with some great results, and so life goes on. Keep us posted with your successes and failures, we're here to help!
