First things first; please DO NOT SHOOT ME DOWN, I am asking a question not posing a judgement/criticism! It seems to me, as it probably does to most of you that Vaping can save lives, but to a complete novice who would is thinking of 'converting' from analog it can seem like a minefield and will no doubt puts lots of potential vapers off. Consider the buying scenarios and choices: ANALOG: walk into any newsagent/supermarket... CHOICES: choose a brand, choose a strength or menthal, 10 or 20.....unwrap and enjoy DONE! VAPING: buy 'consumable' mass produced ecigs from a supermarket or newsagent at inflated prices, and not really enjoy the experience. Look for better products, find no local retailers, look at the myriad of online suppliers (some not reputable) and wait for possible delivery. CHOICES: hybrid or separates MPV or APV. battery capacity not forgetting spares and charging regularly. Cartridges, Clearomizers, atomisers. ego's, 510 and various threads. Variable voltage and/or wattage. resistance/ohms. Kicks. Vapesafe. Batteries 18xxx. rebuildables. ss mesh or silica. dripping. PG VG what mix?. what mg?...etc...etc .....SOD IT give me 20 b&h So as asked, do you think it is all too complicated? if so would some kind of industry standardisation solve it?

No! Start with an evod kit (or something similar), and learn from there. The thing is to master walking before trying to run

I think it's quite simple, join this forum as a beginner and take good advice. You can quit smoking with an Evod and an ego battery in my opinion and never have to buy anything different. It's a personal choice if you want to get on the shiny bus, learn how to coil and mix your own juices. So to summarise you can buy cheap quality gear and quit smoking easily or turn vaping into a hobby

Its is as complicated as you want it to be.
I agree its annoying that there is so much substandard stuff sold all over the place, and the only options for better kit appear to be online.....hopefully this will change as more prople take vaping up though, and becomes more mainstream.
The choices you mention are just that and its really unessential to know about if all you want is a replacement to cancer sticks to be honest, a simple battery and iclear16s would find many people sorted for good. For a lot of people, me included, this becomes a hobby then these choices become more appealing.
Edit: too slow lol, as above said!

depends, if you are looking in depth, maybe it seems that but simply put: it's a battery and a tank to put your eliquid in. there's a myriad of choices in smoking, pipe tobacco rolling, make own..I used to fill empty cigarette tubes, using a machine... filling a tank is actually easier for me! as for flavours, and pg/vg that's trial and error and is now the fun part of vaping for me. whereas some of the cheap cigarettes I tried could never have been described as pleasant

Friend of mine bought an ego 650mAh battery and a CE4 clearo & a 10ml bottle of tobacco juice 8 months ago and hasn't moved on to anything else. She's given up smoking and doesn't treat vaping as a hobby, just a means of not smoking anymore - simple. She's replaced the battery once or twice, bought several CE4 clearos and buys a drop of menthol juice from time to time as a change from tobacco - that's it - job done for her

No contest. Smoking was a necessity, I don't think I can say I 'enjoyed' it; vaping is fun! I enjoy the variety and the choice and I've always loved acquiring new things (vaping gear is considerably less space consuming than clothes, shoes and boots!). I like the fact that there is always something new to try and I love this forum. There always seems to be something to look forward to and, icing on the cake, I feel so much better.

I used to buy tobacco online from a site that sold over 1000 brands of cigarettes, over a hundred brands of rolling and tubing tobacco, 200 + types of rolling paper & filters, 3000 brands of cigar including one that cost over $1000, and 5000+ different brands, blends and cures of pipe tobacco. That's not to mention the tens of thousands of pipes, pipe accessories, lighters, cigar cutters, humidors, cigarette holders .........
Smoking and vaping are as simple or as complicated as you want to make it

The limited choices to be made when smoking and the endless variety available as a vaper is like comparing using the bus to owning a car. The bus is easy .. decide where you want to go, get on, pay your fare and get off at your destination. Car ownership on the other hand opens up a complete new world of freedom and like vaping can be as basic or advanced, as cheap or high end as you want it and for many it becomes an enjoyable hobby ... There can't be many folk who would claim that smoking or travelling by bus is their hobby or that they even enjoy it.

I started on Skycigs, which are a simple battery/carto arrangement. It got me through the first month or so, which is arguably the hardest period. I now use an SVD and boge cartos mainly when at home, which is just a slightly larger version (of course I have the obligatory cupboard full of other vaping purchases but that's due to it turning into a hobby).

Is it complicated? Yes, it can be. Is it too complicated? I don't think so!
Different people have different experiences of course, but for me I'm glad that I had to make a conscious effort to learn and research stuff. It helped me prove to myself that I was ready to stop smoking, and I was committed to trying something else. Once I'd started, I found it really easy.

As it comes down to health and/or saving money, then no, I don't think it's complicated. The individual can make it as simple or as complicated as they require, the same goes for cheaper or more expensive, depending on where interest & capability lie. Plus, the simple doesn't have to mean it doesn't work, I do simple & it works for me!

Smoking is 100% easier and I really miss that aspect of it. I am constantly re wicking kayfuns or charging batteries and it does wind me up when all I want to do is chill out after work. But the health benefits are massive, my lung capacity has increased by about 150 compared to when I was a smoker and I no longer have a horrible cough or any wheezing when I wake up in the morning. I hope that within the next 12 months a company comes up with a different way of turning juice to vaper that requires no maintenance, batteries that last about a week and all in the size of a normal analogue. I DONT HOLD MY BREATH THOUGH.............

Is it too complicated? I started vaping in Sep 13.
Phase one:- Ego cig, and those plastic cart things from totally wicked. Over the next few weeks I tried to understand which flavors and eliquid suppliers I liked. How? Trial and error, watching reviews on YouTube, joining forums.
Then I wanted more flavour from the eliquids I liked.
Phase two :- read YouTube reviews, some really great videos for beginners grim green etc. Understood what a tank is, who makes them , what they do.
A few weeks further heard about something called variable voltage, mods, recoiling and rebuilding tanks.
Phase three :- YouTube and forums again , bought a vamo, shopped for some coil wire, started to rebuild my own coils. And now I love vaping.
My point is this , take your time, slowly discover what you like, watch YouTube, look at forums and then Bang! You will know all that's required. I smoked for 25 years, I took up vaping, and slowly but surely learnt what I like, which suppliers I like, which forums are good , what devices I like etc etc.
Relax.
