So VAT is payable on luxury/non-essentials, right? So why is VAT payable on women's sanitary product, albeit at a reduced rate, and sorry for the subject matter, but how can anyone class them as a (semi) luxury product?!?!?!? It appears there is no rhyme nor reason when it comes to VAT!

I could try to answer that with a story from my experience concerning ripped up tea towels and blocked toilets but this is probably not the place!

Pastiegate springs to mind..... The trouble with VAT is that it is applied to everything, unless it has a specific exemption, Which means it is a clusterfuck of anomalies.

The reason I ask is, VAT is so variable and they apply it to the most stupid reasons, if something is sold hot, VAT and cold, no VAT, eat in, add VAT, eat out, no VAT, some of the most craziest things come under the food label (or not) like spreads, butter or oil spreads, so this is a liquid, you ingest it? (kind of) so then why would you pay VAT on it (like a food almost, but not quite??)) That's why I ask, and no I dont eat it... but its not so stupid is it, you put it into your lungs, isn't that stranger than eating it???
