As an old-timer having smoked for 44 years, I switched to e-cigs 6 months ago. So far just E-Lites light. Apart from the cough disappearing within a couple of weeks, I've started to develop dry skin and the odd spot which I've not had since teenage years. Does anyone have any advice for me as to whether there may be something in these that I mat be allergic to and if there are alternatives? Also thinking of changing to some other kind of e-cig but I'm a bit baffled by all the techo-babble here from all you experts. Again, any advice you can offer, in simple plain language would be much appreciated. Thanks, Andy.

It may well be a pg allergy, try switching to juices with a high vg content. I personally now only vape 80/20 vg/pg due to similar problems.

I'll leave the technical stuff to the experts but the dry skin and spots could simply be dehydration. I had several odd reactions in my first 6 months of vaping, dry skin and itching being the worst. Increase your fluids, vaping dries you out. Keep a bottle of water nearby, it really does help.

hello there thebishop its may be that it could be anything in them maybe the pg or even the vg or even the flavors they use as i know for elites they are not of the best qualty but then again some of us on hear go crazy with this vaping are you intrested in a big battery one like this www.vapeescape.co.uk/Vaping-Spares/Batteries--Passthroughs/Vision-Spinner-1300.htmlor do you want to stay with the cig look alike something along the lines of an e light in my opinan and many will agree on here if you want a proper vape you should go with the spinner in the link and then choose what sort of juice you like as there are alot but let me know what your intrested in and i can try and point you in the right way thanks for reading teeth

hiya bishop, and welcome to AAEC It may not even be an allergy, its hard to know. I had all sorts of mild symptoms when I first quit the fags but you could try a different mix of pg to vg. If your using a cigalike cartridge does elites tell you what it is? as that may limit what you can change to test out your body reaction

thebishopI doubt if it is an allergy - probably just a reaction to giving up smoking. However you could try changing to a juice based on VG (vegetable glycerine, same stuff used in cooking) rather than the more usual PG (Propylene Glycol). If you want to keep using something that looks like a cigarette, and has 'filter tip' cartridges that you replace when the juice runs out, then NUCIG does VG juices. They'll also sell you bottles of juice that you can top the cartridges up with instead of throwing them away, which is cheaper. I believe your elite 'lights' are 16mg strength, so you'd get 12mg or 18mg from NUCIG. But I think you'd do much better to buy something cigar-sized, like this, for instance, and get your juice from somewhere like this. It is more enjoyable to use, and in the long run much cheaper than using cig-alikes.

Hi thebishop, and a warm welcome to you too! Just in case the 'techno-babble' which you mentioned in your OP includes VG and PG, let me explain. VG (Vegetable Glycerine) and PG (Propylene Glycol) are the two main ingredients of e-juice, which your E-Lites will contain too. It's the mix of PG and VG which people are referring to which may be the cause of your problems. VG gives more vapour and a sweetish taste, whereas PG gives more throat hit (TH) and improves the flavour. Now vapers are a bit choosy in their juices, and some prefer more taste and TH, some more vapour production, so juice suppliers sometimes give the option of choosing the ratio of one to the other when ordering your juice. www.joosejuice.co.uk is one such company, but bear in mind that because the juice is mixed to your preference, it will take a couple of weeks to mature ('steep'). Don't forget that after 44 years of smoking, your body is going through some quite radical chemical changes as it purges itself of the thousands of chemicals contained in tobacco, and it's this purging that may be causing the spots, along with the dehydration caused by the PG. The advice to drink more (water!) is sound and proven to help. If you want to stay quite small, you may be best off with something like this Mini Protank Kit which will give you a much better vape, whilst if you want more control over your power supply (higher voltage means more vapour and taste), something like this Spinner would be a good idea. In fact, buying them both would be a great starting point as you will have a spare battery to continue vaping on whilst the other is charging; both use the same charger BTW. Another option would be the Evod starter kit which gives you two (lower-powered) batteries and 2 x Evod tanks with spare heads, giving you the option of using two juices in alternation. Many of us find that using one juice all the times dulls the taste buds. If we are enjoying the act of giving up smoking, we can at least make it as pleasurable experience as possible! Best advice would be to thoroughly acquaint yourself with some of the terminology we use by reading our Beginners Guide which should answer some of your questions. Please don't hesitate to get back to us; we have all been where you are once and can quickly give you the information you need. Best of all, well done for giving up the stinkies!! ETA: forgot a link!

Well, you really are a supportive group and I thank you all for the fast & informative responses. For a Luddite like myself, without your input this would be a completely uninformed voyage of trial & error.
Myself (10/day cigars) and a friend (20+/day roll-ups) started on the e-cigs at the same time and to date haven't had a regular smoke since.
We are both finding that the off-the-shelf e-cigs are not great. The cartomisers don't last long & have very little taste after the first few puffs. I quite like the more traditional cigarette rather than the larger alternatives. The spinner does look like a good place to start and I assume these will work with any e-liquid. Have read the beginners guide which has lots more useful info.
I see the e-liquid comes in various sizes, 5ml samples to 50ml. How long do these last? Is there a comparison, i.e 1ml = c.20 cigs?

Hi Andy.
Congratulations on quitting smoking. I get the odd spot these days but my skin is many times better than when I was smoking.
I think you should get another e-cig as E-Lites are very expensive and in my opinion not very good overall.
The fact you have quit is remarkable and must have taken an Olympic standard effort. I tried to quit from 15 a day for 20+ years and certainly didn't manage it with this sort of e-cig. I would argue (given my 18 months interest into e-cigs and fully understanding nicotine delivery and efficacy) that you have more or less reduced your nicotine intake to a small fraction of when you were smoking.
My current e-cigs are probably 5 times cheaper than this sort and 3 or 4 times more effective. I barely puff on mine these days. I still vape 20 times a day, but often just a few puffs.
