I have my 2.5 year old niece staying with me for the next 5 days. The conundrum I have is my brother forbid me from vaping in front of her. This has upset me on two points I don't really feel like he has the right to forbid to do anything and secondly it's my house. I feel so torn and a little upset by the whole incident.

Anyone any thoughts? All imput gratefully received?

My two cents worth, Natz. It's your home and you make the rules there.

However, on the other side of the coin, it may very well cost you the pleasure of having your niece visit.

its a tricky one... and you both have valid points. yeah he has no right to 'forbid' you but then maybe a little give and take wont hurt.... vape somewhere away from her just to keep the peace. then when shes in bed fast asleep have a nice relaxing vape and unwind.... with a nipper running around you prob wont get much time to vape anyhows

I think I agree with Tye's points. I'm guessign you dotn wanan run the risk of yoru brother saying no totally. I'd go along with his request atm and maybe you have a few days to educate him a little more

Although it is your home, he is her father and mayeb if he understood a little more abut how it works and what it is then he would be more understanding.

Or is it the "smoking" part he doesnt want her to see rather than being around the vapour?

I completely understand how you feel, my first reaction would be of indignation of being dictated to in my own home . . . but standing back, would a little give and take as Tye has wisely suggested be very hard, for the sake of keeping the family peace.

You could print off some info, explaining vaping to your bruv, but I'm inclined to agree with Jem . . . it's more the association with the smoking action that bruv probably objects to.

Your niece's stay could provide you with the opportunity of practising some 'stealth' vaping skills - in anticipation of your US vacation . . . it might just be possible to turn a negative into a positive maybe.

Thanks for all your input. I think I was just abit taken aback at being told what to do. I've turned into an 007 stealth vaper lol standing behind doors, having books in front of my face, holding vaper in my mouth till I practically turn purple so there's no vaper left, I'm sure I look incredible funny.

I used to vape quite happily in front of my son's partner (who has asthma) until she read some ill-informed rubbish that PG is dangerous for asthma sufferers (despite it being used in nebulizers). Rather than cause a rift in the family, I now join my son out in the garden. Life''s too short!

I don't vape in front of children as I wouldn''t like them to look upon my nicotine habit as being AOK. Stealth vaping out of site of prying small people is fine with me.

my dad has asthma and vaping can agitate him so i dont vape in front of him... with my niece and nephew i have to run and hide to vape as they love to crowd around me and play guess the flavour uncle gordy is vaping today !!!!

I don't think it's unreasonable to be asked to not vape around a child.
I wouldn't do it anyway.

Why's that? The 'poor' child has to live in nowadays world, go to school/play in exhaust polluted air, inevitably lives within range of one or the other industrial estate etc. They are over-pampered enough as it is, yet when drug consumption decreases every few years its a reason to celebrate.

I do see your point bioxx and don't get me wrong i dont subscribe to the cotton wool approach of parenthood but i don't think anyone is being a control freak here... Nat's brother is just being a protective parent. you can't blame him for wanting the best for his baby. there are too many bad things in life we cant control so i see nothing wrong with letting a parent have a say on the tiny things they can control.

I think Nat was just taken back by the damand of her brother rather than a request

I may have gone off subject lol and may go off subject even more but it is confusing for parents now a days... when we were kids we cycled and played around the village/town without a care in the world. the only rule was to be home by tea time.... now a days parents are scared stiff to let them outta their sight ...personally i blame the media pumping us full of fear. i bet if parents acted like ours did they would be called irresponsible!!! political correctness gone mad

I'll meander off topic as well Gordy . . . what irks me is this seeming modern obsession on 'Sell by' dates . . . I've friends who will bin perfectly usable foodstuffs if they've gone 30 seconds past their Sell/Use By . . . the Company I work for now, bins an obscene amount of perfectly edible food because of the laws governing it's sale.

I'm not saying that there shouldn't be regulation, of course there should to protect people's health . . . but it's the lack of common sense applied I find staggering.

The first thing I'll do tomorrow is to go through the bins at work and fish out anything that's perfectly edible and has been written off, to take to one of the feeding stations for Homeless People in the area . . . just can't abide waste, when half the world is starving.
